When will we be overcome by liberalism/progressivism and loose our gun rights?

I have heard many fellow gun owners say “oh come on, they’re not gonna take our guns”.

I firmly believe that if anti-gun politicians gain control of all 3 branches of government, including a large majority in the Senate and House that severe restrictions will happen very, very fast. I do not see a total ban in my lifetime (I’m in my 60’s), because even in liberal countries some ownership continues.

One thing that may, and I say MAY, save our handguns is the huge and growing amount of Concealed Carry Permit holders. There are about 14,000,000 permit holders in the US. Every person who owns guns should get their permit. I realize in some states that is nearly impossible. In Florida there are over 1,500,000 permit holders.

14 million handgun owners notwithstanding, ironically, those of us with CCW permits are the data base that they likely would START with when coming after the arms of private citizens!

This answers the question. And who wins the war isn't as obvious as you'd think. It's not as easy as "we've got the guns, and liberals are wimps". The south thought they'd win the war back in the 1860s, because the northerners are wimps, afraid to fight, etc. It didn't turn out too well for them, and it might not turn out so well for those on the side of conservatism/freedom either.

Interesting. We will lose eventually simply because of the liberal populations in the cities are growing and rural population is declining. Question is, when guns are outlawed, who is coming to gather them up from those who refuse to turn them in? Will the military turn against the citizens? Police state? Only a fool would fight the law as he would be killed guaranteed.

I don't think anyone is ever going to knock on your door, coming to confiscate your firearms. There's easier ways to do it.

Taxes, burdensome regulations, etc. Politicians can implement these and slowly regulate private firearms ownership to near nil. It will take a lot longer to do it that way but it can be done that way with less expense and need for conflict. The Supreme Court in the Heller decision already said that government has the right to regulate gun ownership.

1. 400% tax on gunpowder and loaded ammunition.
2. ammunition dealers licenses cost $5,000/yr.
3. reporting requirements for all licensed ammunition dealers.
4. expensive gun owners identification required for ownership
5. expensive transfer fees and paperwork requirements for firearms transfers
6. annual safety inspection requirements for each privately owned firearm
7. "safe" storage requirements for all guns in private ownership
8. extensive training and qualification requirements for gun ownership licenses.

the gov doesn't need to come and confiscate your firearms. They can slowly regulate them to near non-existence in a single generation merely by slowly implementing more and more regulations.

Remember when .22 ammo was scarce ? Ammo will get scarce.
