I only get a few fox each season and this male looked like a Giant! Real frosty rump though... Great surprise this morning!

Whole or on a board? No big deal if that's on a stretcher.

Oops, sorry. 38 on a board would be big, not counting tail.

I got one that measures 36" nose to base of tail hanging in my office. it weighed almost twenty pounds and is the biggest red fox I've caught to date.

34" is a nice-sized red.

I think just about any that are big enough for the tail to go past end of board are easily 36". Yeah, I guess 36" is pretty big.

Miley that fox has EVIL looking eyes !!! lol . Nice one . I see you're in Suffolk . I spend my entire summers living out of my truck like a bum fishing (surf and kayak) the south shore of the island . I live 150 miles north of Shinnecock bay and fish there three days a week and then Jones , Moriches , Democrat etc. EVERY beach (especially bay sides) from Captree/Jones and east has fox tracks in the sand EVERY morning . Shinnecock is loaded with fox . I'll see several a day from the kayak while I'm in the bay . I always said I'd spend some time out there during the season trapping some but I haven't yet . I remember some famous dude tried to raise Guinea Hens to eat the ticks but the fox ate them all LOL . They should be pretty prime /heavily furred up right now .

Beachcomber , I think 38" nose to BASE of tail would be a GIANT fox , no ? 34" nose to BASE of tail is a big fox IMO .

When NAFA says over 28" is XL you might think 6" more would be bigger than XL. For sure bigger than I've caught.

I've got 15-16 red fox on boards in the fur shed right now. All are average-sized 9-11 lb. females and 10-12 lb. males.

I'm going to measure them tomorrow, will post the results here.

Thank you! We probably passed each other on the beach! I fish the south shore, cupsoge ,east side of Moriches .smith point. Love them stripers but when the big blues come in May , I’m throwing top water . My favorite! All you see on the barrier beach are fox ,coon and deer tracks. No trapping allowed though. I’m sure you’ve had fox rooting around your truck trying to steal bait. Guess they learned that from the seagulls! Lol

I hear ya but when I see what NAFA calls an XL coon in my trap, I think, awww, its still a baby, think I'll let him go.

You guys are right, 34" is a big fox..for many areas. I would think fox run smaller in SE Pennsylvania because most probably don't live long enough to see their second birthday due to so many trappers. Fox live longer in less pressured areas and many run around at 16 pounds. I often catch 36" fox in the woods so when I was thinking BIIIIGGG, I was thinking BIIIIGGG.

Buzzard posted a Red on here about six or seven years ago, believe it went 40" on the board.

Miley, I use to catch some BIIIGGG coons when I lived in Lake Panamoka.

Okay, so it turns out beachcomber13 is right. I just measured all these fox and the average length is 33 inches nose to base of tail. Most females are around 32 with the eight-nine pounders being 31. The males went 33-34.

Hey, thanks for saying so, Lugnut. Love those nice long boards, mine are just four footers.

Wasn't trying to cause a stir or to pee on Miley's parade, just stating what I have found over the years.
