If it's a cultural issue and and nothing to do with skin color then why do the role models you say they need on tv need to be black? They don't need to be black. They can be any color. They'd probably like to see that there are black men who are actually men, unlike the "man" that fathered them, that it's cool for a black man to grow up, get married, have babies, and work a good job. Are you saying it is, in fact, a skin color issue?

Kind of a broken record and cherry picked images. The only constant here being elders thinking the young have gone to heck. Old Man Nemeses: 70's 80's Feel free to replace the 18yr old now with one of these:

The simple answer is the break down of the family and the black family has been hit hardest by this, by design if you ask me. A young mans role model should be his father.

Well u said it has nothing to do with skin color and then u said they need BLACK role models on tv. lol just pokein at ya a little bit loosegoose. I do agree we need better role models for all our youth.alot of Nancy boys out there.we need to get more kids into trapping I see how when I said "If anything, black boys need to see MORE black role models on television and commercials, not less.", maybe I should have said "it would be good for black boys to see more black role models". That's more what I meant. And yes, boys need male role models, regardless of skin color. It's good for a little boy to see that someone like them (not necessarily someone that looks like them, for example, a boy from a drug house can benefit from a role model who used to be an addict to show them they don't have to repeat that pattern), but the important thing is for boys to have good role models, period.

If you're looking for a role model... Looking on TV would be your first mistake.

I get the point and I will not point out the flaw (we all know what it is), but I do have a question. What percentage of our military comes from the cities? Just wondering if the numbers match.
Catch22- I like you signature line. I should copy it as it would explain some of my posts. Wouldn't change my view, just explain why I hit 'post reply' vs the back button. Current military or past? In years past, esp during the draft times, the numbers were pretty close, city vs Rural. This would have been during that time known as "the greatest generation" and when they were defeating the Axis powers. Currently, I think you'll find it slightly more rural simply for economic reasons. Kids in rural communities have less opportunity to elevate their situation than do urban kids. Just how the money shakes out.
