It looks to me like the trap has been put together. The pan does not belong on that trap.

Cushion Grip was a padded jaw trap. The jaws on that trap are not padded. Never have been. The pan is in very good condition. Might have slight value to a collector who needs a pan for a correct trap that he has.

The 1 1/2 Briddell Cush-N Grip jump was made with rubber jaw inserts riveted onto each jaw with brass strips on top of each jaw. The trap pictured does not have the rubber jaws. If the original steel jaws are still there they will have rivet holes in them but they may have been replaced at some previous time. The trap as is would not have collector value.

Even with this fur market...a guy could take this trap out for mink or rats and make $100 bucks off it in a season. Really super strong, stronger than many new traps.

The tag is correct.

The trap is an Animal Trap Company, "Oneida Jump". In 1939 Animal Trap Company took over Charles Briddell trap Company. A.T.C continued to make Champion and Cush-In-Grip traps for a short time, until they used up the parts acquired from Briddel. This pan was likely left over when the Briddell trap parts were gone and put on this Oneida Jump trap, in 1939. Kind of a Mystery Barrel trap to use up part.

Do mystery barrel traps have much collector value?

Other than the paper tag on the Trap saying it is from 1939, how does a person determine that a trap that looks to be put together is a real mystery barrel trap and not something a trapper put together 5 years ago because the original, pan fell off and he just grabbed a pan laying around to make the trap functional.

Not arguing with snakecollector because he is very knowledgeable about old traps . Just curious .
