Going to pick up a semi-auto 22 for the trapline and was looking at the beretta U22 or the ruger mark IV. Both come with a rail for mounting a scope, which I'll most likely install. I'm familiar with ruger, but not the U22. Anyone got any information, good or bad on it? Thanks, Worm.

Get a rough rider, they are cheap and you can shoot shorts and mags, with the extra cylinder. No need for a scope on a trap gun as your shots are up close. also no need for the longer barrels to the same point.

Me too. It's gonna get abused and will continue to get it done.

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

I have the beretta neos and it can be real finicky with rounds. It's mainly a loading issue which I believe is from the magazine.

I plan to use this pistol to hunt with as well. Squirrels and rabbits, maybe coon. That's why I want one with a scope rail. I already own a shoulder holster made to carry a scoped hand gun and it will be completely enclosed and somewhat protected. I like the rugers, maybe go with an older mark II?

Rough Rider for my deer camp trap line. I work off a 4 wheeler at camp.

I have a Beretta Bobcat for my home lines. It is a lot easier to carry in my pocket.

I wouldn’t want a scope on my line guns. They get wet a lot. With a cheap gun you don’t worry. Something cheap enough to just spray it out with WD 40 and let it drip dry. If I carried one of my nice pistols, I would be cleaning it way too often.

Worm look at the reviews on the Ruger SR22. It's a VERY good trapline gun. Much, much better than a heavy, slow loading, low capacity, piece of Heritage. smile

I own both a Mark ii and a Beretta Neos. Both work well. If cost was the same I would go with the Ruger Mark IV. If you are looking to save a few bucks nothing wrong with the Beretta.

I have shot a Ruger SR 22 and various revolvers and I feel the Mark series Rugers and Beretta are easier to shoot well.

This is what I use and I love it. I do plan on getting a Heritage Rough Rider though. I would like to be able to shoot shorts, plus, I just like wheel guns.

I’ve got the mark iv hunter for the same reason as you spoke. Hunting pistol small game close distance haven’t put the scope on yet waiting for the rail to come in from ruger. Honestly haven’t even fired the pistol yet but I do like it and the idea of an accurate pistol out to 15 yards or more. Also the one button break down makes cleaning easy I would certainly look at the mark iv closely if I were you

Get a rifle...
I lost a coyote last week trying to get to close for a shot with my pistol. He made a good lunge and ran off into the brush with my mouth wide open.
Had it happen to me with a red fox when I was a youngster.
It will NOT happen again.

I carry on old RG .22 revolver. ( It’s the same model used to shoot President Reagan ). I paid $24.99 for it back in the 70s. Not very accurate, cylinder is sloppy, and the ejector is held on with a zip tie. No blueing left....but you can’t hurt it and it gets the job done.

I own and use both. SR22 is very accurate but I will not use it on my water line. Heritage is good enough for an occasional dunking, though! grin

The Ruger semi is the most accurate 22 handgun of the ones I have.

Yep. I carry a Savage .22 bolt action in my truck. It's usually not very far away if I need it.
