Was looking to get a few #4 1/2 Sleepy Creeks before the supply dries up for beaver. Anybody use them ? How about any discussion between the SC 4 1/2 and the Bridger #5 ? I do have one #5 Bridger but right now my go to beaver traps are #4 Duke coil, #4 Victor jumps & #330 Dukes. Also one MB 1216 also in the mix.

I find the SC hard to set and really like my #5 Bridger coils.

I have nothing clever to put here.

What do you mean by this? Are they no longer being made?

The SC is much better than the Bridger. But, it's a lot more expensive.

The SC inside jawspread is a hair over 6.75" while the Bridger is about 7.25" inside.

I can set the Bridgers by hand with ease... Sometimes I struggle to set the SC by hand.

I have to use setters on both models to remove caught beaver.

The Bridgers have the chain attached to a clevis on the spring. The SC chain is center mounted on the baseplate. (Duke #5 and SC 4.5 are both about the most "ready to go out of the box" beaver LS traps... But the quality can be inconsistent on the Dukes)

Hope this helps you compare.

I run both but I prefer the #5 Bridger's... easier to set, as stated above, is the major reason.

Oops I may have to restate that I am referring to the Bridger #5 longspring, not the coil.

Take a look at the Montana #5 cs. It is nice to have a dogless beaver trap when you are up to your knees in mud. Reasonable price and a great back foot trap.

I can't believe that cop put me in the back seat when I clearly called shotgun.

I mentioned the #5 Dukes in there... Be aware that the Dukes actually have a tad more jawspread than the Bridgers. I believe they are closer to a true 7.5" inside jaw spread, whereas the Bridgers are about 7.25"

You didn't ask about the Duke #5, but I mentioned it. In your case the SC or the Bridger should be your choice. The Dukes May not be compliant in the case of your regulations.

Just a heads up... Albeit a little late. Lol

Newt Sterling is a Sleepy Creek fan. I like sleepy Creek but I am not sure how much longer they're going to be in business.

If you cut off some of the base where the spring bolt comes through, you can break them over your leg like other longsprings.
