Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I am 62 and retired this year and used to trap muskrats, and coon in the 60's, 70's and 80's and then snared some coyotes and dabbled with beaver when I had time. But now I have time and love trapping beaver and snaring coyotes. Back in the days of working real hard trapping coon I would dye my traps and then dip them in future floor polish and it got harder than woodpecker lips and seemed to stay on a long time and protected the traps. Does the new speed dip or the water based version also give a hard coat or would the floor polish be good over the speed dip? What do you all like the best speed dip or water based dip?
I just bought MB 750 OS with laminated jaws and they are nice and much easier to set than my Sleepy creek 4 1/2 longsprings but the way the 750's came from the factory I had to lift the pan up by sticking a screw driver under it. I thought it was way to stiff. But with the notch in the dog and no creep or excess travel maybe you need a lot of resistance on the pan movement. In my mind an otter could have been doing backflips on it and only a 60 pound beaver could have fired it. I can't fine any information on the proper setup for beaver and maybe an otter with these. Please give me your thoughts and expertise. I can buy a commercial trap tension gauge if I need to. Thanks in advance for sharing your wisdom!
Great website, I will enjoy it alot!

Yes, I loosened the tension up but since they were all that way from the factory I thought I might have been doing the wrong thing.

you can call Minnesota trap line products and they would be happy to help you.
They're good folks. It seems to me I loosened the bolt and worked the pan up and down until it loosened up a bit and snugged up the tension to where I wanted it. They are stiff out of the box.

I do this as well, a little tweaking and they work great. This being said I am not the heavy duty beaver trapper Boco, Les, and others on here are. Osky
