I've used wheel guns and have nothing bad to say at all about them. Very reliable and most are built to last. But most are not made to have a scope attached. I've owned the SR22 and it was an exceptionally accurate pistol. I regretted having traded it off. I currently carry a bolt action rifle on the trap line and it will digest any size 22 ammo I put in the clip. Its just a little big when carrying other equipment on the line. As I mentioned before the main reasons for looking at the berretta and the mark IV were because both come from the factory with scope rails already attached. My eyes are getting progressively worse the older I get so scopes are becoming my best bet on pretty much all my firearms.

The smartest gun purchase I ever made was a Ruger in stainless, back when I bought it I paid for it with possum's, still call it my possum pistol, not because it is for shooting them.

I plan to use this pistol to hunt with as well. Squirrels and rabbits, maybe coon. That's why I want one with a scope rail. I already own a shoulder holster made to carry a scoped hand gun and it will be completely enclosed and somewhat protected. I like the rugers, maybe go with an older mark II? i bought new ruger specifically for 1) rail for a red dot as can't see open sights worth a darn anymore and also want to use it for more than trapline and 2) threaded barrel for suppressor if want one on it. fyi---new rugers are easier to tear apart than old ones.

I carry my son's Savage Rascal most of the time. I also have a S&W Victory that shoots very well and is easier to disassemble and reassemble than older Rugers.

do you carry it c o c k e d and locked like a 1911 lawdog?
only reason I ask is I like a single action revolver. stuffed down in a holster that covers the trigger its handy when I need it and out of the way when i don't. very reliable and imo very safe even crawling around in a plum thicket or rolling back down a creek bank when your feet slip out from under you

No Danny I carry it empty chambered the nice thing is if I just hit the mag release and when that mag pops just a little ways it won't fire then.

Appreciate the input. Still looking for one that come with a scope rail from the factory or at least already drilled and tapped. I've even considered a woodswalker PCP air rifle in 22. Easily scoped, more than enough energy to dispatch coyotes, quite, light and ammo is very cheap. Plus I could use it for animal control work in town as they come with barrel that has a shroud and built in baffles to make them very quite. Comes with pistol grip scales or can be fitted with the back packer shoulder stock. Anyone have any experience with one?
