A friend told me he uses a basketball air needle to skin coyotes.
He inserts the needle under the skin in various places and turns on the air pressure from his compressor. Says it takes around 90lbs of pressure to work.
They blow up like a balloon and the hide separates from the carcass. all he has to do is a little knife work.

Anyone ever try this - Is he feeding me some fishing bait??

The needle method doesn't work. It looks neat but that's about all.

Now just maybe if you got the hide started and you had enough pressure and could direct It into a specific area between the hide and the carcass as you skin It may be enough pressure to push the hide away from the carcass. Like the hammer method just a bit more delicate. You would need to come up with a flat nozzle with very fine outlet. Shove It down between the hide and the carcass and let er rip.
The more I think about this the more I think It just might work. Kind of like air operated knife.

But If you have a machine puller It may be just a mote point. But It could speed up the opening process.

Now If It would ever warm up I could give It a shot but at 25 below I'm just going to sit here and hunt and pick at the key board. LOL

I'm thinking if you had a long needle - say 12' - you might be able to accomplish something... Start deep and work your way out to the edges...
Dunno - may mess around with the idea.

That said, this guy has been known to "spin some yarns" if you know what I mean!! When they don't work, he always says, "You must be doin it wrong..." LOL!

Tried it and that's my conclusion also!

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

It Is kind of neat to see them blow up like a balloon. I've tried It on coon and beaver same results. Once you make the opening cut your right back to square one.

Always funny when you ask the people on youtube or facebook to show the actual knifework when they post these "air skinning" videos. I've yet to see someone post a full video.

Just tried it with my last coyote a couple weeks ago. Complete waste of time. Like Beav said, it’s pretty neat to see them blow up like a balloon. That’s about the end of it though. No easier to pull than just skinning the darn thing.
