Bulldozerjoe, I was in your situation about 6 years ago and found a mildly used Farmi JL351 for my 48HP Leyland tractor for $2,000. Best investment for heating my house I made. If your not doing it already, watch Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace for a used one. I absolutely love the unit! Easy to use, minimal maintenance and you find out you have more friends than you knew. If / when you get one I suggest plenty of weight on the front of the tractor. I have 600# in weights and a general materials bucket on the loader and when load up the winch still get light on the front end. Be careful if pulling at greater than 45 degree angle from the which as a hung up log will lift ballast filled tires quickly if you keep the slip clutch engaged.
Good luck with whatever unit you find.
Dave

Bulldozer - if you want that info again I will send it by P.M. I decided that I did not want so much personal info floating around.
Wallenstein is a fine winch for me. However it has 165 feet of cable. The Hudson that you posted has 230 feet of cable. I carry a 100 foot extension cable.
If you use a skidding cone, you can pull twice the log because you are no longer plowing with the front. It keeps the log clean too. And the log glances off of other trees and obstacles.
I have a source for an auto release snatch block pulley that is the best I have seen. Far better than Farmi or even my Wallenstein.
If you buy a new Wallenstein they will paint it - powder coat to match your tractor. They have New Holland blue. The custom color is no extra charge!
I can help you or anyone with a really good front end loader grapple bucket. You need a third function on the loader control joystick.
Best wishes, Willy

Dirty - I use one all the time. If you want I will send info by p.m. I would not be without one. I believe that my Wallenstein is the cream of the crop. I can do magic with it, some snatch blocks, extension cable, and a skidding cone. I do surgery style specialty skidding and removal work on beautiful recreational property for fussy private owners.
I work alone with this stuff. There is a learning curve because of the physics involved.
Make sure that the pto shaft on the winch has a shear bolt. That can save the entire driveline. Many don’t have that safety feature.
Winch the logs up tight to the skidder, then lift and drag them. No plowing that way. I have 2 extra chokers to attach so I can skid 3 logs at a time.
I have the grapple or bucket on the loader, the skidding winch on the 3 point and it has a built in trailer hitch so I pull a trailer for the splits and it has a rear hitch so I connect the splitter to the trailer. Everything in and out in one trip. I unhook the trailer to skid logs. I leave the splitter connected to the trailer because I made the tongue long snough to work and throw splits into the trailer. That takes some power and a 4wd tractor - my 70hp turbo makes it look easy!
Run - I have a source for really good grapple and they ship. Send me a pm if you want info.

I ended up picking up a lightly used fransguard v4000... i new who owned it and it was taken care of. He passed and I asked his wife if she wanted to get rid of it, she said yes... I researched on line and gave her a solid offer that we both agreed on.

Back in the day I had a capstan on the back of my Unimog. no limit of length and a good pre stretched double braid did the trick for me.

Bulldozer - good find on the logging winch. Looks like it was not used very much. Is it rated for 4,000 pounds? Check the clutch and cable to look for any issues. Don’t feather the clutch because that is what causes them to wear out. Give the rope a solid pull and keep the clutch engaged for the pull. Some can pull at a fairly high speed. Drop the 3 point lift linkage fully so if needed the blade will pull a little deeper as needed.
Scuba - were you pulling logs with your boat? Rescuing sinker exotic hardwoods?
NRA - the same thing and much more can be accomplished with a simple 3 point hitch boom pole, a tow chain, and a pair of log tongs. That is what I used for decades. The guys lawn tractor is too small to safely and effectively do much. The tail can wag the dog.

Carlis - that is a great combo. Rubber or metal tracks?
Pcr2 - well isn’t that just special! You brought a gun to a knife fight! Who said anything about real skidders? Do you share?
Green - no offense intended to the seller, but can you get honest straight info about it? Since I work alone 90% of the time I strongly considered getting the remote control package on my skidder. I did not because I was concerned about longevity of electronics in that work environment. Yes, the tractor has electronics. Buying a used skidder with electronics would concern me unless it can be easily completely disengaged. What do you know about the brand? 14,500 is about the largest made. 1300 pounds is a big load for most tractors. Certainly a loader or many front weights would be needed. 200 feet of cable is good.
Mike - Just about any brand can be purchased delivered. My Wallenstein was delivered at no charge. The local farm equipment dealer wants to deliver stuff all the time. “Just try it out.” That is sort of like asking someone to babysit a puppy. You know they will keep it. Negotiate a deal! Real tree farms are sales tax exempt in Ohio.
The model I bought is rated for 8,500. It weighs under 600 pounds. I needed one that would work on both of my tractors. Also I needed to be concerned about overall weight for hauling it to jobs. Using snatcblock pulleys I can easily increase its power. If only using it at home I may have gone larger.
The guy on the video showing his 3 point invention uses a tractor without a ROPS. He may want to rethink his videos.
