There must be better places than that in the vicinity for an open water beaver set. 2X

Divots that are natural, like the one Jaime made in his video , are common along all the river and creek banks here, at different heights, in beaver country here. Those are good places to "half" submerge a body grip, with a stick through the springs or diagonally through the top corners of the trap to anchor it and guide the beaver, baited with a mudmound/bait stick/ castor choice behind it...if legal in your area. If totally submerged, a dive stick above the trap will suffice.

The easy answer Hobbie is anywhere you want to at that location. Set it wherever you can easily bed a trap and where it's easiest to drown if using a foothold. Just block off the sides, lure it and you're good to go.

Thanks for the input, I went with a snare on a leaning stick. I placed a couple 330s prior to this location and they wouldn't go near them which is why I went with the snare at this location. I have since learned that they have been shot at as well as attempts at trapping.
I made the catch but I did something wrong as it was snared by the snout instead of the neck or chest.

Nice job. I don't think you did anything wrong, but if you feel you did, just tweak things a little on the next one.

Your lucky it was snared by the snout. With the way beaver market is now it would have been near worthless with a snare burn on the body.

Our beaver are castor donators only. Last time I shipped a beaver it was a car hood and brought $18.00.
With the exception of a couple folks that eat them, I don't even peel them far enough to see snare marks.

I skin every beaver, and expect about a $12 average at auction, but the castor has value.
