So we have been hearing from a number of areas that coyote production was down this year. And it appears that some of the state trapper sales like Colorado are picking up a larger portion of the coyotes produced. I know the preliminary sale numbers for NAFA are only an estimate since they are posted well before the last recieving date. What do you guess the actual number of coyotes offered will be once the catalogs are posted?

Curious about that same thing. I'm guessing their estimate is a tad high. 32,000 will be offered, my guess. This could be fun.

Could be more southern and Mid western coyotes are finding there way to auction this year? What is the going rate for a Missouri/Tennessee/ Kentucky type coyote? I know they aren't heavies but maybe the extra demand is bringing them out of the wood work.

Heard that one of the trucks missed the turn in Toronto and just kept going to North Bay, gut stuck and used some southern yotes as traction matts to get out.

oh wait this is not 2018-4-1

Last year the Feb/Mar catalog total was 73,537 coyote. Suppose that is where the 70,000 projection for this year came from.

They had to go off of something. My guess 50,000 with a lot of junk.

I don't think they'll be coming outta MO. Our numbers are down for most I've talked to. Weather limited access for many. Fewer license sales. Not to mention the "quality" of our yotes. The demand on lower numbers already seems to be driving prices upward. I know there's a couple new buyers in our state, just getting started, but still buying locally. A couple that are more well known are doing some pick-ups here and there to beat the state auction and the groeny truck. Coyotes are really the only fur out there that is showing signs of a strong competitive market. Beaver, rats, coons, are showing slight improvements, but nothing like coyotes, at least from what I see and hear. Lot of trappers reporting lower catches.

Should be posting catalogs later this week. What do you think? I'm going with 58,000.

I can’t be the first guy to think of sending my $20 Midwest fleabags out west for auction.

I heard rumors of around 50 000. Quite abit short of the estimated 70 000.

Seems like I'm getting an email every day from NAFA. Not necessarily about wild fur but stuff about this sale - ranch fox assortment, ranch mink rancher groups, payment terms, stuff like that.

It appears like the messages are directed towards buyers. I have two accounts at NAFA - seller and buyer - and it is difficult to sell which account is getting the emails (same email on both accounts).

That's all I can tell you.

If there truly is a shortage of western heavy coyotes. As everyone is predicting. Seems strange they would not of extended the LRD.

It’s been done in the past with other species.

Thanks Al. Just got a rancher email telling about the sale. Said a good amount of buyers are showing up and they hope they can stabilize the market. We will see.

I don't know if it's any indication that there are less coyotes this year but the catalogue shows they are selling alot more fur the same day as coyotes than they did last year.

It will take probably 45 minutes to sell that many coyotes. They will have the rats and coyotes sold and started on the coons before the kids go to school.

I'm thinking it will be more than 45 minutes to sell coyotes. Should be plenty of competition, especially on the better goods. Competition makes the sale take longer. smile

I don't know about southern goods. Most rains I believe we have ever had, raining right now. My catch is off real bad compare to last few years. Also because of the market a lot of southern steel is still hanging in the sheds. Five to seven inches of rain this week along.

51,679 total I came up with. I was pretty close on my guess of 50,000.
