I fell asleep on the counch last week with the tv on. Woke up about 0400 and the info-commercial for this "dealer knife set" had just started. Wondering if anyone had ever privately sold such knives? I do have a sales tax license in my state but no business liability insurance. SD has very easy knife laws, although Soo Foo and RC are more restrictive. I haven't checked but selling across state lines on ebay for such knives would probably be prohibitive, although dining ware serving stuff sells. I suspect "Bowie" would get slapped down on ebay. A few folks had such knives for sell on my local craigslist, although don't know if I want to meet someone unknown in a c-store parking lot to sell a knife or the one sword. Word of mouth among a friend network may be a way to move some, especially the single pieces. Just curious of your thoughts...

I sell knives all the time on Ebay. Some people get away with switchblades, others get booted.

I think I've seen the same info-mmercial, I think those knives are probably junk.
That doesn't mean you wont be able to find some sucker to sell them to; not something I'd want to do though.

I can’t throw a stick without hitting knives for sale. The market is so saturated, I don’t see how anyone can make money to justify the time.

I don’t collect knives and don’t see them for anything past pragmatic. That’s me.

We have a few "wholesale" places around here. Every flea market, antique mall ect is flooded with cheap china junk including knives. These wholesale houses will sell to anyone but some of them I think require a hundred dollar minimum purchase. If you don't have a tax number you will have to pay sales tax though. I use to buy some and work them over a little and sell at pow wows. Glue some tanned fur or buckskin over the sheath and hang a few glass beads off them. They use to sell really well.

I've seen those knives at gun shows and fairs, the are as useful as a Bic lighter under water.

Lot of knives on the market now days that would make better clubs than skinning/cutting tools.

it's a shame so many are more than willing to infringe upon ones rights, my wife just got her new microtech OTF.....nice little piece of engineering in a pocket knife.

Thanks for all the comments!!

Yeah, I never expected these knives to be higher quality, how could they if the wholesaler or whatever they are sell these pieces for an average of only about $1.60 per item. Sort of torn from the beginning about selling cheap, probable ChicCom stuff. We sort of have a love-hate relationship in trading with the Chinese, we want them to buy our wild fur and soybeans but get fired up about seeing mostly their cheaply made stuff in the stores. They are not our "friends" in the long run but I guess we're sort of stuck with them.

I'm quite embarrassed about assuming that knives aren't being sold on ebay because they are "weapons" without running some key words through the completed auctions. As lumberjack391 reminded me, maybe I should have checked first and seen thousands of knives still flowing through ebay! I did run the key words of the 12x sets of their knives through completed auction and seldom were the selling prices close to the company's "suggested retail price". I think a guy could probably still make a little cash from buying that dealer lot, such as rick brocious said was his experience, but I don't think it would be the 5x return that the company says (not that I really expected that).

I think I'll take that $340 and spend a little more time in the local antique malls around here and maybe find some under valued gems that I would enjoy more trying to find a new home somewhere else. Some good old American stuff. The hunt is always part of the thrill...

If you drilled a 1/4" hole near the end of the blade.
You could target Colorado and call them
Joint holders and pipe scrapers. Might be worth 5x the money. Lol

I've thought about doing that too. A neighbor down the way had a hard sale and he was selling some of the knives from that show. I bought a few for $1-2 each 2 folding pocket knives lasted a few uses another is in my truck as a backup

that sounds like a good idea.

and its not to say that everything coming out of china is cheap junk - they are making some very nice knives in China these days, but they have a price tag to go with them - not generally as high as US made, but still more than the average person is willing to pay for a pocket knife.
