Good Morning,

Any other nightshift trappers out there? If so, are you a "check sets before work" or "check sets after work" type of trapper? I check before work at and try to get critters skun and in the freezer before I gotta hop in the shower and be to work at 6pm. Then catch up on fleshing and boarding on my off nights after I get down from the bow stand and the wife goes to bed. Never a dull moment in the fall! Wouldn't trade it for the world though.

Unless I get a call from a customer and they want the animal removed, and as long as I'm in my limit for trap check, I check the adc line after, and you're right, never a dull moment.

Smile, you're an expert!

I leave my house every workday at 5:30pm and return home the following morning just before 8:00. Twelve hour shifts with a fifty minute commute on ether side of it during good weather. I do it by choice.

I average three to four hours sleep on those days I'm working. Takes me about four hours to run my traps. During November and December, I'm always operating on the edge of exhaustion but I do it because I love to trap.

I work rotating shifts so sometimes it's before, sometimes it's after. On days off it's early in the morning

Shift work here too, when I'm nights I check before shift. No more back country checking in the bark for me . Back when i was ten foot tall and bullet proof i use too, but looking back i had some close calls . I will check road side sets on the way home from work coming off nights.

6pm - 6am the last 8 years. I check when I get off in the morning. I skin and handle fur in the afternoon when I wake up before work. Having a fridge for fur is your friend. It’s hard on you but nobody gonna give you dang thing for sure. Gotta get it. Props to all the night shift trappers it’s a different world.

I most definitely need to get a fridge in the shed.... I think this will help a lot.

I'm curious....what were some close calls?

Like not knowing the ranch like I thought I did. And almost going off a cut bank, darkness and snowing didn't help. And another time trail along the rim rocks, rock slide put tire size rock in the tall grass trail and wham I hit it. Cut the wheeler tire, broke a rib and my finger.
