Okay, I will go in another direction for getting where I need to get in winter. Has anyone used or have a snow plow attachment for their pickups? I have been looking at another option instead of a side by side or snow machine etc..

If you have a snow plow for your pickup tell how they work and the pros and cons about them? I need to plow a mile of road and can do it when the snow is freshly fallen so looking at a light duty one and may only have to use it a few times each year.

Snow plows put a good beating on a truck.

I don't have one but know some guys that do.The best is if you can have an old truck just for plowing. If you drive around with the plow on your run around truck it is hard on the frame, front end etc.

Yep, all good advice. The issue with plowing is it will drift in faster and tighter. I have the area to windrow it out but on a heavy snow year the plow maybe only good for a few times through, then it will plug tight or could.

Grew up with plow on tractor to feed cows in ND. You're correct Snowy, the berms a plow leaves causes the snow to drift in deeper every time you plow. A snow blower solves that problem by spreading the snow out and leaving no berm. We have a plow on the truck here at work and the parking lot is shrinking fast as we're having a winter storm right now.

Buy a boss 9'2" v plow. I have had a boss v plow since 1996 and you will pay more st first but they are bullet proof and having the v plow opens up lots of options when pushing snow. I know guys that have straight blades and have switched to a v plow and they can't believe they ever plowed with a straight blade. It is like buying a belisle body gripper or a Duke body gripper, you get what you pay for.

I have two plows. Both are Fisher. One is XV2 8'-6" . The other just a normal straight 7'-6". I like both plows. I can get buy with the straight plow (Had that one since 2003) but the V plow has some added advantages that make it really nice. Had the V plow for about three years.

I drove one for years, they can move a lot of snow fast..until you run out of room for it, or you can't push the berms back, then your done. Yes they are hard on a truck, and you really need weight in the back to keep chugging, and, if your truck will handle it, go with a 8' blade, then your tires will track on cleared surface. Of course you want hydraulic tilt. Never had a V plow.
Snow blower is really the way to go. You can get ones that mount to the front of a vehicle but prepare to spend serious money.

X2 but with any plow you have to have room to put it other wise get a blower.

Worked on a job years ago and several guys had snow plows on their pickups, they would plow parking lots for extra money. They were always bragging about how much they made plowing snow, but in the next breath they were always talking on what they broke on their truck plowing that snow. Seemed to me plowing snow was more than the pickups were made to handle. Just because you can put something on a truck doesn't mean it belongs there.

Having an old dedicated plow truck that doesn't get used enough is problematic itself. I have a 3/4 ton (the ONLY way to go) with a Boss power V and love it. The bad part is old trucks rust and I have been replacing brake lines, batteries, etc. Put it on a new truck and it gets the snot beat out of it. What is the lesser of 2 evils? I wish I had the answer for you.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I have a 1983 Dodge W350 4X4 with a Boss V plow on it. It's a decent plow, but I do have problems with it opening and closing. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. More often than not, it just goes up and down. My driveway is 1/4 of a mile long. A plow is the only practical solution for removing snow.

If I was going to use a truck to plow it would be an f 350 diesel, preferably an older 7.3.These are the trucks we used on the railroad and with all the railroad tools,4 big men and hi rail gear they weighed 11,000 lbs on the scales. Those trucks would go thru 3 feet of fresh snow. The narrow tires for rail travel helped them bite down.

Encourage your closest neighbor to buy a nice plow truck.

Hang it on at least a 1 ton, and you'll still trash the front end.
