I caught my first bobcat this year and I was wanting to get the fur tanned to keep it to hang on the wall. At first I was gonna try to tan it myself but the more i think about it I really don't want to screw up my first cat. Do you all have any places that you would recommend? If it makes any difference I am in Kentucky but I will ship wherever I need to to get a good job done.

I have used this service and have been well satisfied, and it is reasonably close to you: ED WALDUN TANNING SERVICE 811 COX ST. GREENVILLE, SC. 29609. 864 421 9376. You might want to call ahead before you ship for instructions.

If you aren't in a hurry then Moyles is hard to beat. If you are in a hurry then you'd be better off sending to someone else.

Z&L is the way to go. Great price and turnaround! Just sent Leo a big box of fur last week!

Moyle has improved their turnaround a lot. And you will not beat the quality IMO.

Moyles turn around time has greatly improved. Less than 60 days last time I checked.

Moyles if you want quality work you can take a pelt out of the box when you get it back and sell that pelt as it came, others tan but the finish is not the same from my experience and what I have see others get back from other places. Example I got back 23 skunks and 2 coyotes crammed into a box the size of a USPO large flat rate box I was not impressed with that.

My buddy is a taxidermist and he got back a yote and a civet from another place and the civet was sweet looking but the yotes came out rough (looked like a yote that came off a stretcher too soon.) So it's a crap shoot at some places Moyles had consistent quality every time I sent pelts into them.

Moyles is a be a big supporter of trappers. I've seen them at various conventions and I know they have contributed financially to help State organizations fight anti trapping legislation. Maybe other tanneries have done the same, if so, I'm just not aware of it.

Moyles is good but if you are sending a lot of furs over, Fed Ex prices are going to be a ton. Cost me $75 to send 10lb box there a couple of years ago. Ask your local trapping association about local tanneries or google them. I have used Moyles. They are good as others have said. I have used Great Northern in Wisconsin and their hides were just as good or better than Moyles(my wife does leather work and she preferred GNF or Moyles for their quality. They had some time issues last year and I called them and they are at 180 day turnaround right now. Some people on TMan recommended SleepyCreek in Wellsburg, IA to me so I have some furs there right now. Every time I talk to them I get the owner and no BS so I am happy with their customer service right now. Will let you know in three months what I think of their tanning skills.

Leo at Z&l does great work and a quick turnaround. Moyles took 6 months and I paid extra to have it done that quick.

$75.00 to FedEx a 10 pound box?? That is crazy!! Did you send it over night?? Or was it really large but light weight (dimensional weight). UPS ground would have been about $30.00, depend on size and shape of box.

I doubt Great Northerns turn around time is 180 days. More like 210 (or more) in my case. I understand they are having issues finding enough good employees. Long turn around times will cost them business in the future. That is what happened to Moyles - they were on an 8 month turn 2 years ago. Now, their volume of business is down so they are under 60 days turn.

I have also used Sleepy Creek in the past. Nice folks to deal with. The coyotes I sent them came back nice, but the leather wasn’t quite as thin as a Moyles tan job. It was much cheaper to freight to Sleepy Creek than to Moyles. I would use them again.

WissMiss--Oversized box!!! MN to Idaho. Sent my bro a hooped beaver from here up to Alaska. Package weight was 4 pounds and it cost me $74.88 because of the oversized box.
