I had a transaction this morning where someone transferred $180.00 into my PayPal account. I don't usually use it for that. PayPal charged me $5.50 for the transaction. That seems like a ripoff to me. It was an instant, electronic transfer...$5.50?

Does anybody use other methods of transferring money online like Venmo or Circle or any other method that is secure and less expensive?

I had a Venmo account set up to send money but it was a one time deal then I shut it down. The recipient had a Venmo account and did not use PayPal. I'll have to ask if there was a transfer fee on their end.

Eh...wot?

We have used Paypal for many years as our credit card merchant for our business's. There is a transaction fee for all payments that you receive. A small per ticket fee and a flat 3% fee for all monies.

Over all we have been very happy with their business model. Just the cost of doing business and the other positive protections that are provided. If you shop around which I have it is one of the best out there when comparing all the options with no variable rates to consider as with many others.

They all take a percentage of the amount, just depends on who you use !

I don't use them any more as they are setup to protect the buyer at all costs, I had several problems with customers ordering , receive their orders then make a complaint of no shipping, Pay-Pal then locked up my account until I could prove shipment, then would not take the proof I sent them !

I ended up filing a complaint with them, and dropped them, as they would not open the account back up. Basically these maggots wanted product and would manipulate Pay-Pal to get the orders for free, the only way to open the account back up was to pay the charge back to Pay-Pal !

I don't use any of the pay service's now, strictly check or money orders or direct deposits to my bank, and I track every shipment as well,

Sorry to digress on your thread !! However Pay-Pal is not as friendly as people think !!

We have had very few problems with buyer fraud over the years. One recent case I posted on here just a few months ago from a purchase in California. I had one of our members contact me and he had answers for me in a few days.

I wouldn't have gotten a fast resolution like I did had it not been for his help and detective work in his network.

I got my payment and the fellas wife got a good chewing out as a result.

We have never lost $$$ on a dispute to this day. I only needed to send in my UPS receipt and confirmation of delivery to the given address to PayPal they handled the rest. It may take a few weeks at times but these things can be expected to happen when dealing with the public at times.

Most folks are honest in our industry at least in my experience. But there are always a few.

They also have to support their anti-gun position somehow.

YEP, Ken , that's why we always send/receive to "friends/family" to avoid padding that pocket.

This is interesting and I didn't know about that policy. This was not a sale, it was a repayment to me, a simple transfer from a relative who owed me. Next time I will do that.

Yo Lug! Unfortunately I am forced to use PAypal for the pure convenience of it- and it is woven into other e-commerce platforms (AirBnB) I am not proud of using either... But friends and family transfers have no fees- although, they have limits regarding when/ how much can be transferred out of your PayPal account. To clarify: if you receive 1500 via a friends and family transfer you may only be allowed to transfer out 1000 every 30 days or so...

It looks like the free-to-friends-and-family option is U.S.A based only (both parties must have US based accounts). And then only if the transaction is funded by your PayPal balance or a bank account linked to your PayPal account.

If the transaction is funded by a credit card, debit card or PayPal Credit, 2.9% of the amount funded this way, plus a fixed fee (from the table below) based on the currency of the transaction.

Sending or receiving from other countries generates a fee based on the amount sent ($0.99-$4.99) plus 2.9% of the amount, which is what I paid for this transaction.

Pay Pal just started that fee to transfer back to your Bank about October 2018 or close , because it was costing PayPal money to transfer your Money to your Bank , certain Banks were doing this !
Before that date it was FREE to transfer returned money or money or PayPal balance money back to your Bank . Banks were charging PayPal to transfer monies to certain Banks , from my info .

Sending money to friends and family is still FREE , only when you purchase Goods it helps to protect buyers and sellers depends on the situation , it is ALL in the PayPal Policy that you can read or print off .

Some Banks charge 20$ to Cash a Payroll check, BION ! WHAT?? It is called EASY MONEY , smile

To those who mentioned the anti-gun stance of this company, I am aware of their politics and, as Beaglador mentioned, I use PayPal for the convenience of it- and it is the only option with some transactions like e-commerce platforms.

Also, I am asking for other options. If somebody suggests one that works and is pro-gun, or at least not actively anti-gun, I'll be all over it!

There was no fee to transfer to my bank. The fee came from the initial transfer from my overseas relative.

The instant transfer to your bank (using a credit or debit card) generates a 1% fee. The standard transfer (takes 24 hours) is free.

Venmo, which I used once then deleted my account is reportedly free for all transactions which is weird because they are owned by PayPal. The drawback is that they recently switched to where you can only use their services through a phone app, no longer at your computer. Which isn't a huge deal but I do most of my work from my desktop and don't really like using my phone for that stuff.

For overseas transactions PayPal has another company that handles that now since early 2018 late 2017 , they were having problems themselves so they hired another company to handle them matters , that Company may Charge a fee !
You can try Xoom for overseas transactions .

IDK about your other option you use, or used .

Paypal has worked for me for several years. As long as you send to friends and family and check the appropriate box there's no charge. I also have never received any kind of charge when sending money to my bank. If you're selling and shipping goods you can put the shipping info in and it serves as proof the package is shipped.
