We are in a real deep battle now and need help. All hunting trapping and fishing are in jeopardy in NM.

SB417 State Game Commission Purpose & Species (Anti-Hunting Bill)

If passed, this bill will give the State Game Commission the authority to protect all species of wildlife including non-game species. The Commission will have the ability to make any and all changes to trapping and hunting regulations, bypassing the legislative process. The bill would give the appointed board the power of our legislature with no oversight. In short the anti-movement individuals are attempting to create a back door to ending our ability to hunt, trap and fish.

Contact the following legislators and STRONGLY OPPOSE SB417! When emailing, type “Opposed to SB417” in the Subject line. Please be respectful when contacting legislators.

Legislators both left and right love this kind of legislation. It removes the issue from their realm of responsibility. They can always then just shrug their shoulders and point their finger at the department of whatever when there is and unpopular issue.

Your approach to fight this change in law is to berate them and make them feel guilty for wanting to neglect their responsibilities as legislators. You don't even have to address whether you are anti-hunting or pro hunting or trapping, that's not the issue here. Of course we know it really is, but there's a better way to fight this.

Might be a good thing in the long run with them going after multiple fronts at the same time it might wake up enough people and originations for them to organize to fight against this rather then picking off one group at a time! Now the hunters/trappers might form a plan to address this problem.

Good ideas guys.
It's a battle this session for sure. NM has way too much at stake this session. They also want to create another outdoor department to push outdoor activities.

This system could clear out old laws that cater to a few special interest groups that donate to politicians.

Does anyone know if the NTA stepped up to help fight this legislation?

This way the elected officials that were voted into office do not have to answer to there constituents because the action was made in committee. JMO

In Michigan we have the Natural resources commission, it works very well. The control all hunting and fishing rules and laws.
Also trapping. The seven people commission are appointed by the Gov. They cover much more than mentioned previously.
Before the commission if you wanted to a one (1) day to the rabbit season. You would have to get your State representative to interduce a bill, then the bill would have to go through the hole process of getting the bill passed. It was a long process. JMO

We'll see how well the system works with our new Democrat governor.I personally am pretty skeptical about it after seeing how they used it to gut our 'cat season in the mid '90's.
