My kayak's anchor is a piece of clothsline pole in the shape of a "T", probably weighs about 5 pounds. The rope is some piece of sash cord I had laying around, and the knot is just a square knot. I made the whole setup in about 5 minutes right before the first time I took it out in the river. It holds my kayak in the river in 8 feet of water max just fine, but your mileage may vary.

I got all fancy-schmancy and got a really nice yak with a foot steerable rudder and an anchor trolley. I bought one of those small fold up anchors so I know I will have enough holding power without having a huge space hog. I just wanted to make sure I was not going to have to go diving after my anchor when the knot came loose. You just gotta know that there would be blood in the water AND sharks if it happened.

Just make sure that you have an easy way of ditching your anchor in case it gets hung and a squall blows in and takes you and your kayak out. If you use a trolley system, there are ways of rigging it for easy ditching.

As good a plan as any. Make sure it is sharp, preferably serrated for cutting rope in a hurry.

Yes, but I will be anchoring it in the FL Keys. In exactly 1 week to this minute I will have been on the road for 6 hours.
I am really excited to get the heck out of the snow.
