I caught one here once that was 27 inches on the board from nose to base of tail. It was 36 inches on the board to the end of the tail. It was the widest board I owned ...a #5, I believe and the mink weighed over 4 pounds. It had all of the natural colors of a wild mink and did not appear to be a ranch mink based on that. That was far above the average adult buck mink around here where a big one runs about 22-23 inches to base of tail on the board with an occasional rare one being in that 24 to 25 inch range. I worked for a fur buyer when I was a young kid and we got in a bunch from the Red River Valley and the buck mink from there were absolute monsters.
I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!

I have had two at 29 and one at 27. My average is 23-25. I caught my largest female ever this at 24, most are 17 to 19.
Those are some nice mink. We just don’t have the numbers here in the Pacific Northwest.

My first mink was a red river mink and went 34 inches nose to base of tail and was 6 inches wide at the base I sold it to Mark Hammer in Princeton Mn for 35 dollars it allowed me to buy my first gun a marlen model 60 .22 I was 11 and still have it It is still the largest one I have ever caught the next largest was 30

Seems like that happens a lot your first is your best and you think gee it must be like this all the time. Then your hooked.

My son caught this one a couple years ago. Canine teeth were worn almost flat with the others. Was one of the bigger ones I can remember. The 110 whacked it right behind the ears, and it still had a frog in its mouth when we pulled up the trap. Blind set in little weedy ditch with trickle of water running right down middle of it. Ditch went through a corn field and had some rat sign on it so we were setting for rats. Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.
