My great uncle was part of the 101st that parachuted in ahead of the beach landings. He later did some short, very general interviews for the local newspaper.

On another occasion I had just moved to McCook Nebraska and was looking for a barber. I found a little old barber on a side street. After talking to him a few times I learned that he had run away from home with his friend, they lied about their ages and enlisted. He ended up in the Phillipines running heavy equipment. He told me that they had a terrible time keeping the local Philippinos from killing their Japanese prisoners. Lastly, right after the war was over he went to the Japanese mainland. He went to get a shave and was terrified the woman shaving him was going to cut his throat with the strait blade. His name was Benny, I hope he’s doing well.
