It will be a big undertaking,Andy to change out all your boxes, just for a few missed fisher. Other than that, you will see more bad catches on the smaller marten as they have more room to avoid the trigger. Maybe a 160 with a pitchfork trigger would be good.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Dirt, we had a lot of big marten tracks go right up to the 120's, look inside, and then leave. After several checks with this result, we switched over to 155's, and saw the number of our catches go up, as well as the percentage of big males. The only thing we changed was our traps. We don't have the time or the money to put two different traps at the same set on our line, we just saw the refusal tracks time after time, and reacted to them as best we could figure. Turned out well for us.

Tom i like better only head catch just being ear, to not have mark on back where the grader look first, metal freeze burn of low jaw can damage the fur and leather on back, I would think the jaw metal freeze burning the pelt would be a rather rare situation. I have never had it happen as far as I can recall. I would think it would only happen in very extreme cold temperatures with associated extended check periods, and in those extreme climate situations it's my experience marten stay under the snow to a great extent.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

That's a neat picture with the wolverine in the 120, Yukon!

I don't think I have ever been dinged for burn. Granted, we don't see much below zero, but plenty of single digits and wind for extended periods.
Made it almost 3 years without censor!
