Guy's who are tanning furs for use in clothing, what type solution are you using. I'm trying to find chrome crystals but can't find any.

You should be able to find chrome tanning materials from VanDykes Taxidermy, which is now owned by McKenzie. I wouldn't recommend chrome tanning for garments, it produces a blue-tinted leather and the leather can break down over time. I would recommend McKenzie Tan followed by a quality leather oil or the Liqui-tan and Liqui-soft combo.

For garments, I recommend you work on thinning the leather as much as possible, oil well and spend time working the leather soft, a.k.a breaking the hide, while it dries. The more time spent working the hide as it dries the softer it will be.

What are you tanning?

Also some people have reactions to chrome tanned leather.

I salt/acid pickle and finish with an oil/chamois tan of my own recipe (that differs with specie, both the pickle and the fat liquoring). Never got into syn tans as it was my understanding they are more difficult to break in the hide, without having pressure tanners, drums, etc.

Pressure tanning has been debunked.
