What is the biggest thing you are allowed to trap? Are there laws regulating what type of traps you are allowed to use?

I was just getting the picture of a Big Ol Bear in a big box trap come to my mind.

Feral pigs and wild boar are the largest animals I can legally trap in Ohio. Snares and footholds are illegal for pigs, but box traps and corral traps are legal. We have a few wild boar in my area. One of the hunters, on a friend's property, 6.8 miles from here got a picture of a wild boar a few weeks ago. If the boars stick around there, I will build a corral trap for them.

I have trapped Norway rats with 110 conibears and 1 1/2s.

Are there Wild Boar in Eastern Ohio?

I trapped my wife. Then again, I had the best bait in the world...….. ME!

There are wild boar or feral pigs scattered over most of the State of Ohio. There have been sightings of feral pigs in most Ohio counties. The state traps the bigger populations of wild boar in the Wayne National Forest now. The ones in my area were released by a breeder, who lives just outside of Saint Paris, Ohio and are supposed to be pure Russian boars. I saw 4 a couple of months ago and reported them to our game warden.

There were a lot of wild boar in the Symmes Creek portion of the Wayne National Forest. Some friends and I hunted them a lot for a while. They were mostly nocturnal. I saw one for a few seconds and never got a shot. I saw massive damage that they did. I was told that that area has since been heavily trapped.

The biggest thing I can catch on purpose is a wolf. The biggest thing I have caught was a mountain lion. Had to turn it over to the government because trappers can't skin and sell mountain lions here. Know what they did with it? Skinned it and sold it.

The ones that were released by a breeder, who lives just outside of Saint Paris, did he do that on purpose? Was that legal?

It's illegal to release wild boar or feral pigs in Ohio. It is actually mentioned as illegal on the ODNR website. A lot of the rapid expansion of the territory that feral hogs cover has been caused by the live trapping, transport and release of hogs by people hoping to set up new huntable populations.

I have no first hand knowledge of the breeder by Saint Paris releasing the wild boar, but have heard about it second or third hand from a multitude of people, some who have been to his farm. They all said the release was intentional. I know a man and his adult son, who went on a massive drive, to eradicate the boar. They surrounded the wood lots the boar were living in and drove them after a light snow. A bowyer, whoI know, told me his son killed 27 small boar close to Kaiser Lake by the Great Miami River. The 4 boar I recently saw were on Purk Road close to Zimmerman.

I heard the population of wild boar in the Wayne National Forest came from boars that were released by 2 brothers, who cut the fence and let the boars out after their father died.

It was legal then. Only foot snares legal now.

Other than that when I was an inexperienced teenager I set traps in a sheep pasture. Of course I caught one in a #2 Montgomery dogless. Not good!!

I think I win this contest with ease .I was trapping a property one year that the landowner was doing some logging .On a Sunday morning I can around a corner and there sat a large Gray and Orange thing right on my trap .On my way out I saw the owner and he ask if I had anything .I told him about the Gray and Orange thing and said I did not have a gun big enough to kill it ,I did not know how to skin it and I did not have a stretcher that it would fit on . He said is it a cat .I said no it is a Kubota .When he finished moving logs the day before he parked the track hoe he was using so that the one track was on top of my trap . He got a look on his face and started saying how sorry he was and I started laughing and could not stop . I said I was the only guy I know that ever caught a track hoe
