Truth! Wouldn't I love to relive it. I look back on how young I was and all the ways Alaska tried to kill me. I squeaked by.

You got me to thinking and I went and looked it up. According to Wiki, there were only 317 of them built. Can you imagine what one would be worth today. We flew that trip out of Gulkana. I don't remember the air service.

The only one I know in that country is McMahon and they are in Gakona............just down the road. I've seen a Widgeon sitting at Lake Hood. I think the Troopers own it

I wondered about draw hunts there. Unit 13 was a good area back in the day if you flew in. I imagine wheelers are all over the place there now.

Does the name Ken Bunch ring a bell to you. I think that's who it was.

I'll bet there are a couple in Kodiak and on the peninsula.

It is very busy in GMU13. It is primarily managed as a resident hunting area in this millennium. At least for ungulates.

I wouldn't be surprised. According to wiki, they were built in the forties and fifties. It's a wonder any survive. The Beaver is quite a plane, too.

Sorry to totally hijack the thread, reminiscing is getting the best of me.

It was great back in my millennium. Heavy hunting along the road between Paxson and Cantwell but little pressure if you put any effort into it.

It's beautiful country. Unfortunately, it is on the road system. frown

Could be worse. I could be on the Kenai. eek

Luckily I live in a mosquito infested jungle with super deep snow and lots of overflow. smile

P.S. I think there is a Widgen sunk in a lake about 7 miles from here.

Shirley, you jest. I love the Kenai. Fishing at midnight, crying seagulls, the smell of campfires on the air, the sound of fireworks and .44 magnums. I had some property down there in the Soldotna area. Hunted all over the place.
