O.k. y'all, I made me a pickaroon out an older craftsman ax head. And I'm wondering how old the ax was. It had an aluminum wedge in it, I'm thinking 80s or so...... What's y'alls thoughts???
Thanks.

Thanks scuba. It seems like it’s gonna work just fine. I’ve got to fire up my splitter and get use to using it.

looked like it was a Dayton pattern.
it also looks like a nice pickaroon , i find I like pickaroons in pairs .
for whatever reason it seems every ax I find around here , Southern WIs is a Michigan pattern.
can't tell you much more.

I just restored an axe to keep in the truck as my little Marbels axe ended up next to the stove on board and the truck was axe naked. I think it is a Council Tolls one .... Have to start e thread and put a pick of it up for the experts.

If it is a council tools ax scuba you can call them. They’re still in business. I’ve got an 1850s bush ax that they helped me to date. They are in waccama N.C. If I recall correctly.

Could you elaborate on using 2 of them Pete??? using 2 pickaroons ? sure I can roll rounds with 2 I can wal back wards rolling the round over to the splitter steering and rolling with no bending over. for rounds small enough to be lifted I like to pick up 2 at a time and carry them to the truck more balanced that way. I actually have a n axaroon and a pickaroon they both have 36 inch handles and barbed picks
