Rats, Otter, and Beaver averages look pretty impressive compared to the Canadian sales.

That's the best averages for beaver and muskrats I have seen all year.

You may think before you act. The question is did you listen to your own council?

Probably coon that were sold green. Not put up.

Pelts like coon, rats, beaver, that are sold fur in or open are often referred to as "grease fur" in parts of the US.

In todays market, I thought those prices seemed pretty darn good. What seemed low to you?

The coon, mink and rat prices didn't seem like anything to write home about- not near above the cost of production in my mind. But yes, in todays market I guess if we get anything for our furs its a plus.

Just to clear up a couple things. The Badger was a south Dakota badger NOT a Michigan badger. Our badger here in Michigan a little flat compared to western badgers. Also a few of the coyotes were also from south Dakota. The beaver caster was in pounds. We are working on the excel spread sheet to change the measurement to ounces. And price per ounce will be listed. This was Michigan's second sale of the season. The first was held at Jay's sporting goods in Clair in December just before Christmas. The prices at the Kalamazoo sale this past weekend did increase a little. That average price is always a goofy number in my eyes. You can have a trapper bring in 12 nice, clean and well handled 3X coon and the next trapper brings in 12 sub standard handled 3X coon and there goes your average. All in all I would say it was a good sale. Started about 9:30 and ended about 3:00. Our next sale will be at the fairgrounds in Charlotte Michigan March 16th. Hope to see some of you there.

Happy Trapping, Joe

Thanks Joe. Also on the muskrat glands, that's 2 lots, not 2 glands. (someone was asking) I saw one lot of rat glands go across the table that was 6.5 lbs.

Appreciate the added info on the sale Joe. Sale averages, or most "averages", only matter to the individual trapper anyways. Sales averages are speculator forage in my opinion. I still look though! laugh

Did I read that correctly that castor averaged $125?

I get $5 a possum with just a .22 to the head. As long as it has trap marks to prove it ain’t a road kill they buy them whole. $15-20 for coon carcasses and $20-25 for whole coons, again .22 to the head and trap marks on the foot. The joys of living in the South I guess, lol.

I'm wondering if the cat and castor prices got mixed up.
