I was jarred out of a sound sleep this morning at 6:15 AM. I figured I should answer it at that time of the day. Since the phone is downstairs, I headed down the stairs and realized the sound was that of the old dial phones, an actual bell sound, not one of the newer phones like I have. It only rang 3 times, but since I was half-way down I, would check and see who was calling. Nothing showed up on the phone as a call. Went back to bed and sleep.

I got up around 7:30 or so and went through normal routine, putting on coffee, turning on computer and getting a cup and going back to computer. The first thing always check is the Obituary column. My mental thought was to check on a lady I know to read her obituary. I didn't find it … I couldn't figure it out, since I knew she had died.


The morning went on and nothing out of the ordinary until about 10:30, when my brother called me to tell me that the lady had died. I told him I knew that. And he asked who told me? I said, I don't know. I asked when died she die …. he said at 6:15 Am this morning. All I could say was … OH CRAP!


This is true … no stories here … just wanted to let everybody know if they hear a phone ringing. and it is the old bell sound and you don't have one of those phones …. Well....

Old Alfred Hitchcoch movie rich gal is in jail. Caretaker is going blind and she promises him if he will get her out she will pay for operation on his eyes. So when someone dies they always rang a bell, when she ever hears it she is to go crawl in on top of the guy in the box and the caretaker would dig her up as soon as it got dark. She is laying is the box waiting and wonders whats taking so long, strikes a match and pulls the cloth off his face and its the guy that is supposed to dig her up.
I think first thing I would do is blow that match out, its burning oxygen.

your not the local undertaker are ya??i'd certainly be a little edgy but i'm sure their is a lot out there we don't know a thing about.

When I was a teenager my grandmother was living with us and she had a old clock that had not worked in many years. One night she had been in the hospital for a couple days and that clock chimed. A while later my mom called to let us know that she had died. She died at the very time that clock chimed. What makes it even weirder is that it chimed again exactly one year later. It’s still there and has never made a peep since.

Strange things. Similar thing happened to me, cept the bell part. On October 31, went to bed at 10:00pm. Woke up, wide awake thinking it was time to go to work. Looked at the clock and it was only 12:07am. Went back to sleep and the next morning saw my sister-in-law had called. Called her back and she told me my brother had passed away. Yep, he passed away at 12:07am.

Some things we just can't explain or understand

The mind and soul are power things. We don't understand in how all the things they are connected. I was working nights at a hospital. Between 3-4 am, we used to have to file all the paper orders that had come into the pharmacy that day into individual patients folders. My one uncle had been going down hill with conjecive heart failure and parkinsons. While I put away files, I had the thought that I didn't think he was going to last much longer. Found out later from his kids that he passed about that time that early morning. Was his spirit telling me while in his final moments or while he was heading to heaven...? I guess I'll find out when I see him again there someday...

I hope I dont hear the " Mary Hartman " ring tonight!

It's was probably "The Final Escape", which aired on the Alfred Hitchcock Hour first, with a man as the escapee and on Alfred Hitchcock Presents later, with the escapee changed to a woman.

My great grandparents gave me a lot of the books that Alfred Hitchcock produced, when I was a kid.

Years ago I responded to a trouble report of a distant phone ringing somewhere in a customers house. It took a while to find but hidden in one corner of the attic was an old bakelite desk phone next to a little sitting stool. It seems that a previous home owner had tapped the line up there to eavesdrop on conversations and the bell wasn't audible to the present owner until his own ringer quit working. He had lived in the house for many years and was sure he was losing his mind, we had a good laugh over it.

I saw story, a 14 year old girl died in an accident, her mom didn't know yet, Saw her and deceased father-grandfather in her house, he said don't worry she's with me now!
That would be crazy

Regarding the clocks . . . when my father passed away at the nursing home, the clock we bought him stopped at the moment he died. My daughter works in a nursing home facility. I told her what happened with his clock. She said it's not all that uncommon. Unnerving for the first year or two, but after awhile she said one sort of gets used to it.

My uncle was killed in Vietnam in, I think 1969. My grandmother remembers waking up in the middle of the night to see him standing at the foot of her bed one night, later that week they received word that he had been killed in action.

Do I beleive this stuff happens, absolutely! It would take me pages to tell the freakish stuff thats happened to me since first grade.
What the purpose is I dont know, for me its been more of a curse than gift. I'm left with the feeling I could have made a difference if only I could have received the info earlier. Then there was those times I got the info in advance and did nothing because it was unbelieveable, and that leaves a guilt trip. The reason I dont act on all impules is because I have also all those times of the false reports(for lack of a better word) which are more than the ones that come true. All I can say is if those happenings should continue you control it and not let it control you, easier said than done.

I used to think saved by the bell meant like in boxing if the bell rang before you was counted out, then you were saved by the bell.
But it seems the saying may have come from older times (I think in Europe) where people would have a condition in which that they were in a comma type thing and were buried alive (obviously before embalming become fashionable). So to remedy this they built coffins that would have a string tied to their hand which went above ground to a bell and people passing by would hear the bell, thus the old saying "Saved by the bell"

You are so right Foxpaw as this is not the first situation I have been involved in, only the most recent.

Your story about the bell in the cemetery is also where the term we use all of the time, "Working the graveyard shift" came from. for the first week or so many times they had someone attending the grave during the night, incase there would be no one else around, and the bell rang.

Had a similar event. Out of the blue one afternoon, I had a sudden, very peaceful thought about my neighbor's Grandmother. She had lived next door to my neighbor growing up, but had moved away almost 20 years before, and I had never really thought about her.

The next time I spoke with my neighbor's Mother, she told me that she had passed away a week earlier. I asked when, and it was on the previous Tuesday at the same time I had the feeling. I will never forget that.

Mine started in 2nd grade.

Guess I’m the only one who’s never had something like that happen, unless you count baseball when I was younger. It had to do with homeruns. I just knew when I’d hit one and would send my baby brother to the fence behind whichever outfielder I was going to hit it over. My dad beat my tail after the game the first time I did it, said we don’t disrespect the pitcher or the game like that. My brother and I worked out a signal to let him know when and where to go. I wasn’t a great player or a habitual homerun hitter. I would just know when I stepped in the batters box. I’d call time and step out to run dirt on my hands or something and signal my brother. My mom finally caught on to us, but never told dad, lol. Other than that, that’s as far as premonitions go.

Premonitions, God telling you, spirits visiting etc... are interesting I could go on and on about numerous experiences. I can't remember any off hand where I was "notified" about a death before I was notified but can tell you experiences of post death visitations.

being an only child,and only grandchild,have inherited the family farm thats been ours since the 1890's.had the wife read this cause weird things are goin bump in the night here all the time.we swore for years that if my gramma didn't like what we were having for dinner,she'd refuse to let the gas oven lite.

I had a Grandmother, (different) Grandfather, and Uncle pass away very close to each other in '93 and for my Grandparents the night of their wakes when we came home both times the dog would stare at the ceiling. Then bark at the blinds on the window not being able to see out. We had to let him out to get him to shut up and both times he went in the yard and just looked around like he was watching someone. This didn't happen with my Uncle, but we were not close to him nor was he a religious person. I knew it was them seeing us one more time.

I have had an experience. Powerful, clear, real as anything. Only my wife has been told and it is very personal so I won't repeat it here. What I will say is that after that when I hear the above stories I don't second guess or question at all. It doesn't even flash in my mind. I just think "Yep it happens." My frame of mind is "Why would it not happen?" I know there are those that explain it away. Of course those are the ones that have never had something happen. As natural as waking up.
