I heard they grind all of it up together. Interested in what others know.

I was in Anchorage a few years back checking out the fur shops for ideas and in one they had these sheared beaver jackets. Basically leather with fuzz( fur a few millimeters long). If they shear off the fur, that would leave a product like these jackets were made from?

After grinding the leather part, the whole thing is boiled and the hair mats up and the skin part turns to glue, (mucilage) to bind the whole thing together.

Watch the NAFA beaver video. The whole process is on there. The skin is not used, and they need beaver with good underfur for felt.Flat unprimed beavers are not used for felt hats, the semi and hvy beaver that are badly damaged go for felt hats, also small hvy and semi hvy beavers.

Google North American Wild Fur Shippers Council-Jim Gibb. All 6 beaver videos should come up.-the one about the hatter beaver is titled "foundation of fur fashon".

As a southern trapper where a lot of my beaver are hatters, I wish we could just shear em and sell bags of fur instead of working them up. Be a lot less work . Lol
