Spent quite a bit of time on the Waskaganish Cree web page from the label under the garment. Interesting that they had their 350 Anniversary this past summer. Got any pics of this Boco?

Some good history there North of 50,and some good old pics.I knew about the beaver reserve at ruperts house and the others around James Bay.That really saved the beaver from probable extinction back in the early days.A lot of places where beaver were no longer present got beavers from the beaver reserves around the Bay for restocking. It is also interesting that Europeans first made contact with the Cree in Southern james bay in 1611,20 years before the Pilgrims arrived at Plymouth rock. Yes Nessie, fur manufacturing fits in well with trapping. One can maximize fur returns by stocking up(tanning)on species when they are in lesser demand on the raw fur market. That way you will have enough product to hold you over when those pelts come back in demand at auction in subsequent years. Also raw fur sales of pelts that are in demand pay for the tanning bills and other costs of manufacturing, like purchase of moosehides and duffle etc.

Robert, I have a lot of respect for how you have developed the skills to create and add value from the hard work of the trapline. Certainly not many are able to do that these days. Sure makes a lot of sense.

It is funny BP,when I first started trapping as a kid,I did not even think about selling the raw fur.I first started trapping because I wanted to make stuff out of the pelts. That is also what got me into tanning.
