The MO Trappers' Association (MTA) will be having it's annual fur auction in Montgomery City, MO tomorrow, February 23rd. The auction will be at the Montgomery Co. Fair Grounds, lots 1-20 check in starting at 7am, auction at 8am. More information available on the MTA website.
I will be in Montgomery City, with others, setting up for the auction today. I'll see if I can get some news on how many sellers and buyers are supposed to attend. I will also post the sales results tomorrow evening, for those interested.

If it wasnt clear across the State. I would love to attend though... Wish they would have the Darn thing in a More centralized location in the State. Clear on the East side in Montgomery city is a Haul for myself.
When there was two sales, one in Montgomery, and one in Marshall, I think more people were able to access it. Fur prices dropped though, attendance dropped with it, and the association's ability to cover costs came into play. Some of the decision was based on the fur buyers attending during that time also, as they expressed Montgomery was easier to access from a major hwy. Cost to rent the building was the biggest consideration I believe. Having said all that, I'm not opposed to moving it. The sale should be to benefit of the association members. The Spring association meeting location has been moved to the central part of the state to provide better access for the majority of members. This was a good move and resulted in an increased attendance last year I believe. If you, or any member, has a suggestion, I would contact Justin Elliot, the Fur Auction Chairman.

Post results after tomorrow if you could. That'd be awesome. Does groney attend auctions like that?
She should stay home and do more cooking like Babe Winkelmans wife did, and let her husband have some peace and quiet.

Better than the MS sale was today. I wonder if the MO sale got Mr. Martin Griffith as a buyer today. He has always been at the MS sale but was not in attendance today.

Do you know who was buying castor? Several different buyers bought castor. Lot of competition for some of the best stuff. Derek Peterman bought some, from MO. Doren Miller from Mo also bought some. Didn't know the others by name. Better than the MS sale was today. I wonder if the MO sale got Mr. Martin Griffith as a buyer today. He has always been at the MS sale but was not in attendance today. I don't know. I believe we had 17 buyers.

Three things stick out to me. $152.50 for Castor average. A badger for $55 and a possum for $28. Can anybody explain this to me?

Three things stick out to me. $152.50 for Castor average. A badger for $55 and a possum for $28. Can anybody explain this to me? Castor was weighed. Then buyers bid on that as a lot. So the average lot of castor brought $152.50. Couldn't tell you ave. weight of a lot. Some green, some dried. Too many variables. Badger was a huge one, from outta state I believe, sold whole for taxidermy. Possum was a big white one, also sold whole for taxidermy. Very few other possums, and they were in the $1-$2 range. Hope that helps. Bobcat at $180 was a very nice cat for MO. Taxidermist drove price up, I believe, fur-buyer bought it.

Fur looks pretty well handled overall.Prices look OK too. I was going to say the same thing.....good to see finished fur There was quite a bit of well handled fur. There were some that just needed a little more instruction which we tried to provide as we saw an opportunity. Least amount of bloody/muddy fur I've seen at a sale, which says something, cause it's been wet this season. Helped connect a couple of fellas with a local guy to give them some hands-on instruction putting up fur this coming season. Lots of encouragement given in an effort to help present a more uniform appearance and quality of fur-handling at our sale. Thank you both for the compliments! The sale itself got several compliments from buyers as well!

Nice clean uniform product is what buyers want. When they buy nicely handled fur they have confidence it will dress out properly, without loss.
