Keep in mind that trapping and putting up beaver is a very new thing for me... this list is about 50% of my lifetime beaver catch as they were not really common around here until recently, so the poor grades are a reflection of my inexperience.

the top 3 grades are not poor grades. Select un -blemished beaver are not common.

Doesn't "SLT" stand for "slight damage" and not "select"?

RR = red ringer. Lower price

SLT = slight. SLT DAM is better than GD SLT

Lot 336 is the best beaver in the batch.

No matter what, good luck on the sale. Putting up beaver is hard work.

The last 3 lots will be in Section 3, low grades and damages. They will sell but not for much. If FHA is going to Buy Back any goods, it will be the better end. They want the lower grades gone because they will be getting more shipped in for the May sale.

Section 3 will sell because no matter the damage, those pelts will work for the hatter market.

Putting up beaver is a learning curve. The more you do, the better you will get. Hang in there.

You will average $12.64 after commission.

I think that is a bit high. My prediction is under $10.00 after commissions. Pathetic I know, especially for the work involved in catching and putting up beaver.

RR is a better grade than a Gd Slt,which is a better grade than a Slt Dgd.
Last year I had one of your grades (1X slt dgd xdk-br) sell at $15.12 cdn.

What? $10. For Canada xd br 3xl select beaver ? Did beaver drop in price from a year ago? They got be worth more than that ? If not , I would not trap intentionally other than a few when other seasons are open

I'm saying $10.00 average on the 6 beaver pelts listed in the first post. None of those are 3XL select. Not a select Hide in the group.

Ok, sorry. I read it wrong. Rr is red ringer. Or red rim around the tail ? Me an my brother snare a red ringer or red rim beaver, many yrs ago, it weigh over 80 lbs, it was not worth much an had pelt tan

Most beaver with exception of big select shearable pelts go to the hatter market, which is where yours will go.

Number 1 they are Easterns
number 2. they are dark
Number 3
SLT( old VSL) is the third best grade (very slight damage)
SLT DG is the fourth best grade.

RR is a toss up.

Most of my collection will be SLT or SLT DG Good. I think most collections, going by the catalog, have few Selects or 1's unless cherry picked.

In my opinion, when the color is XDK-BRN, you are going to get a mixture of every color possible for Eastern beaver. Another example of auction companies letting pelts to get larger size lots, which makes the auction go faster, so the misery is over sooner.

In the old days, that would have been at least 3 different lots. XDK. DK. BRN

38 graded still have 11 showing tag but no grade. One listed held over for next sale. Guessing my black one. Highlighted are more then one in a lot number wrote in next to them.

Thanks guys. I am hoping next years grades are much better. I think now that I've upgraded to the new fleshing knife that put up will be much better.

I have a question. I had 11 beaver that graded light, and I’ve shipped for 3 or 4 years and only had 1 or 2 grade light total. Just wondering if anybody has an explanation to this. My beaver usually grade really well and I just want to know if it may be something that I did wrong that could be prevented. Thanks.
