Seems sort of short-sighted but I guess its a new venue (if fall/winter still counts) to make more money on small coons, grinners, and small-to-medium stinkers.

its only thru nesting and rearing season and the reality is not many will partake much. It takes a certain kind of person to do this at this time of year. I use to work for gf and p,i know. Its allowing a few to make a little pocket money but I think it wont have the desired effect. If Alvin Miller was still alive Im sure he would have spoke against it because of the realities. The grinners need to be out of the pouch or they won't count them they are giving 5 free cages to each household that wants them.
With the little snow that is blowing around now you have a tough time finding any supportable cover so kill all the grinners we want without cover it's not going to help much from what I can see.

Its always felt like to me this is about appeasing certain land owners who make a considerable amount of money from paid pheasant hunters and have contributed money to Noems campaign. She has always seemed shady to me. Its not really clear to me if the GFP is paying only april-august or if theyre just suggesting people trap during that time.
As jerry said...its all outlined if u click on it. Its only during nesting rearing season.

Wow , I would look at it like a win win must at least have a trapper friendly fish and game dept. That alone is better than mt. F,w,parks service we have.
Let me sugar coat this

No, its doesn't say its only going to be paid out for April 1- Aug 31 tails. They are emphasizing the nesting season AND a person doesn't need a furbearer's license during that time (only a general hunting license) but it doesn't say that Sept 1 through March 31 tails can't be turned it. There is a start of April 1, 2019 but it appears that's it all year long after that. Anyone want to make a bet on how long this bounty lasts...?

Wow , I would look at it like a win win must at least have a trapper friendly fish and game dept. That alone is better than mt. F,w,parks service we have. its not a win win..........south dakota has ALWAYS been trapper friendly....you drive the interstate and see billboards we promote fur etc. Its shortcuts the adminestration is proposing, wont work. Most guys dont realize,at april thru late summer alot of the kills are 5-9 to one or 2 adults...meaning u kill the parent or parents and the young die in the den etc or similar.......so the trapper really makes chickenfeed and when they find this out they stop.........Doesnt solve much

That has to be the most ridiculous proposal for protecting nesting birds that I have ever seen. The residents of SD should rise up to throw these folks out. At $10/tail they will not go broke, but they will have zero affect on preventing nest depredation from these species. In certain situations, this approach will make it worse over time. The areas where nest depredation is highest is likely due to predator populations being at a saturation point. The removal of, say, 1/3 of the population of predators in the nesting ares will lead to an increase in overall predator population over time due to larger litter size as a result of relieving competition for food. The other major flaw is that bounty seekers will focus on the "low lying fruit" rather than the specific populations which are known to be hitting the nests. Prevention of nest depredation from these species needs to be done by focusing trapping efforts on the individual predator populations which reside near where nesting birds actually reside, not willy-nilly throughout the State of SD. I suppose that I could have shortened this post significantly by just stating, "Bounties do not work."

Possum tails for sale. Only $5.00 each! Might trade for beaver tails.
