It's official, there will be another ivory trap at this year's Spring Fling. A life sized #0 Oneida jump!

Don't know Viking. The ATA invited me to Fairbanks all expenses paid AND I CAN'T GO!! Wife had back surgery a couple months ago and I got way behind on everything.

As usual, an awesome job of carving. Very realistic.

The amazing part - it is finished and ready to ship to Alaska and Spring Fling is more than 2 weeks away. Normally he wouldn't start carving until the week before. LOL

Way to go!!

What a great looking piece of art as always very impressive to say the least ! I'm sure the bidding will be fast and furious I was hoping to be able to attend the fling this year but it's just not going to happen, I sent snares up to be sold on the silent auction as my way of saying thank you for helping us ( the MTA ) fight the anti trapping folks here in Montana.

Any chance a lower 48 state dweller can buy this! Seriously can we bid and receive?

Martenpine or AKHowler can possibly speak for the Association on that. As far as possessing it in the L48, I think that would be perfectly legal. If the feds allow it here, they should allow it in MI......................unless your state has some sort of restriction

All pre MMPA ivory. No problems depending on state law. If you live in California you are SOL!

I do not see why you could not have an "agent" bid for you. We do that when we are auctioning off hides and antlers at the Fur Auction.

You might want to stay on the phone with that person during the bidding. It can get a little "fast and furious."

Just putting in a single bid ahead of time could leave you a tad frustrated when the actual live (and occasionally inebriated....) in-person bidders got wound up at the Fling! I assume that you are aware that these pieces bring in a LOT of money each year. A single bid of only $2000-3000 might not win.

Pete

From one carver to another, Nice Job!
I donated my first carving this year and can't wait to hear how we both do.

That chain is a rather basic chain. I think next year you need a chain that is a bit more complex. Like a B&L chain. Just something to think about.

Actually I think the curvature of the victor chain would be much harder to carve than the strait lines of the old b@l chain. I am by no means an expert artisan like 114 is though.

I have been at it 17 years now, and mostly carve with cottonwood bark. Carving bear heads, stump bears and houses in the round.
The houses in the round are a lot of fun, trying to hide the seam and get as much detail on it. So I made a house carving for the fling, and I'm all ready planning next years house.
I really wanted to see your carving in person this year but work started early. Hopefully next year!

PO Tracking says the package was delivered in Fairbanks. If something happens now it is on Randy's head! I'm guessing he opened the box to check the health status of the trap after being in the gentle care of the post office for a week.

Randy had it at the meeting last night. We all got to see it "up close and personal."

It did indeed survive the trip up.

Looks great!

Got caught up in the moment. Beer, pretty women, art, peer pressure, you know how it happens. Thanks Chuck on another fine piece for my collection. Hope to see you up here next year. [Linked Image]
