Exact inside jaw measurement would help rule a lot of brands out, in my experience.

If they are certified under the international standards the dog will have a 3 letter identification stamp.

Post the stamp like ADC said and I will identify it for you from the sheet. Dukes may be on the rivet and sauvageau on the jaw.

Some of the ways to determine body trap brands besides the stamping on the dog - Shape and style of trigger. Stamping on top of the bracket holding the trigger wire - BMI traps were stamped there as were Montgomery killer (MTI) Shape of the jaws - early Master Killer and early Northwoods Type and position of the jaw rivets The 3 letter identification stamp only applies to traps sold in Canada. Boco some times forgets that not all Tman members are Canadian.

I Didn't know that wissmiss.I figured that might be the case with foreign made traps like duke but I figured all Canadian made traps would have the identification stamps no matter where they were sold.Is that the case with the European made certified traps also?.

That is a good point, but I think professional trappers retired those old traps a long time ago,at least if you want good fur.Might be a few around for nuisance work where pelts are discarded and there is a chance of theft.

I upgrade my tools of the trade on a regular basis, nothing to do with the trap standards. And so do all the professional fur managers I know.Upgrading tools in this industry means a better product.Weak worn out traps have no use on any responsible fur managers trapline. Also as better more efficient and more humane tools are developed we upgrade. One good example would be the new quick killing snare systems that have been recently developed. They have been embraced by professional fur harvesters on both sides of the border because they are a better tool producing a better product.Snares do not fall under the aihts agreement here but most trappers are smart enough to know it is only good business to use the best tools available.Another good example would be the old series 1 conibear traps,a terrible trap for causing fur damage, but still legal under the aihts.I know of no trappers here using those traps for fur,but there are some used for nuisance where bears or theft may be a problem. Nothing to do with regulations as many traps replaced are still legal, just not the best tools for the job. As you say Just sayin.
