MN lawmakers passed tougher background check laws making it impossible to sell a gun to anyone without a background check. They are still debating a second bill that would allow authorities to determine if a gun owner is safe to own a firearm without hurting themselves or anyone else.
Our governor is in favor of legalizing marijuana, but wants to raise the age to 21 to buy tobacco.
We are told not to judge all Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but are told to judge all gunowners by the actions of a few.

Passed the Dems controlled house, not the Senate. That's true. But, once the dems regained control of the house it didn't take them long to try to pass tougher gun control laws. Since republicans control the senate still, it probably won't pass, hopefully.

I assume that this pertains to private treaty sales as well?
I have nothing clever to put here.

Our governor is in favor of legalizing marijuana, but wants to raise the age to 21 to buy tobacco. And just how do they propose to enforce universal background checks? You would need a registry to prove which weapons were owned by whom, and when... If UBC passes, a registry is the next "logical" step. And we already know what a registry is for. You should be shooting and/or hanging these people already. Mike

I'm more concerned about the second one where authorities can determine whether you are a threat to yourself or someone else if you own a gun and take all your firearms away.

I assume that this pertains to private treaty sales as well? It pertains to any transfer, including loaning a gun to a friend or your own child. Under this law, you would have to go through a background check to borrow any firearm from anyone, even imediately family. Not only that, you would have to go through a background check to get it back, legally. Absolutely ridiculous 😡

I hope all the members that voted for the leftists in the democratic party will take note and vote for the side that obeys their oath to uphold the constitution. About time to wake up and admit who wants to take our rights from us.

Make sure you keep those liberal panzies on the West side of the river. You are joking right? We have as many or more liberals in this state! Will not be long and the same tactics will be employed here! Only difference is Republicans control the Assembly along with the Senate here! Chris

Imagine if the 1a rights were attacked like the 2a rights are. 1.. you are only allowed to speak your opinion while in your home. (Blue city gun laws) 2..you cannot hide you opinions from others while in public without a permit.(ccw permit) 3..you are only allowed to state your opinion 10 times cause 30 would be to many times. (Large capacity mag ban) 4..you are only allowed to speak freely in cities that allow you to. (Blue city gun laws) the list could go on and on.

Heard the leading republican in the senate say, neither measure will be approved by the republican-controlled senate. So, it's a non-issue for now. But, the democrats will keep pushing it in the future.

I would hope this demonstration of lunacy would sink in for some of the old, staunch union loving Democrat gun owners and get them to reconsider party line voting! Not holding my breath.

MN lawmakers passed tougher background check laws making it illegal impossible to sell a gun to anyone without a background check. Fixed that for you. Not the same thing

Mike Yes, if I were to give my sons some of my guns without a background check how would they know they were not theirs already unless the guns were registered? I suppose refusal to register would then be a felony where you could no longer own firearms and then confiscation would occur for non compliance. Could it get any worse than that?

They have no way of knowing who the "Official" owner of the firearm is.
