When you have CITES tagged pelts, pretty hard to get the wrong ones returned

^ Yeah, but that doesnt assure anything, pretty sure they remove them to break after tanning, they reattached with a zip tie and cites.
You could get anyones cat with a cites if they want to just send one.

Not sure about GN but Moyles leaves the CITES tags intact on the pelt and most survive the tumbling process. A few do break.

WissMiss, you must be complaining louder than I am. My order that GNF received in May is still not done. Beaver was the reason given. And all of this with a 4 to 5 month turnaround quoted before I shipped and paid 50% up front.

I sent another shipment to Moyles at the same time and got it back in October.

Anyone want to guess where my next shipment is going? I did not think so.

I might be a squeaky wheel that got greased. I didn't think I complained that loudly. Maybe it was just the roll of the dice. LOL

I think there are any number of GN customers out there that are waiting on their shipments of beaver. 200 here. 260 there. Plus other small batches. From what I've been told by Moyles, beaver are a bit more difficult to do because of the thick leather. It takes a certain touch so they don't get shaved down to thin. If GN is/was having labor problems, might be one of the reasons beaver are taking so long.

BTW - I received an email criticizing me for posting my opinions on an open forum. I was told my issues with GN should be discussed privately.

This trapping site would shrink considerably if we were not able to freely post our opinions and observations.

Wiss Miss I had them do a handfull of beaver for me last year the tan is soft but mot near as stretchy as moyle Annie was still able to rum a needle through them without any complaints however them telling you to not discuss them on an open forum is kinda like burying their heads in the sand in todays world and i hope you gave them an earfull that in itself is enough to keep me from giving them any return business

Don't give up. I'm sure you will get them back eventually. I know the waiting sucks but I heard directly from the owner that they have been having a difficult time finding help and this has caused delays, especially with beaver dressing. I think this is a "growing pains problem" - got too big too fast. Other tanneries were slow. They were doing good work. All of a sudden too much work.

Hang in there.

I just noticed on the website- they're not taking anymore beaver until further notice. Probably a good idea to focus on the backlog first.

Stopping all production??!! I know they stopped taking in beaver a few weeks back. If they are closing down completely, that sucks.

I think Moyle would be a better choice for your beaver rather than tubari.

Even though I wasn't super happy with the beaver they did for me, guess I should be thankful they were dressed, rather than sitting around for a year.

Sorry for your problems.

I will say I sent them a bobcat some racoons and 2 beavers. Got my bobcat and coons back in good time and they are great absolutely no complaints. The beaver well that's another story BUT after a few phone calls and conversations everything was handled in a very professional manner. I am satisfied with how everything turned out. Took a little longer than expected but everything has been resolved. This has been my experience with GNF .

Did you get the email about them shutting down their fur dressing?

It is official. Great Northern is shutting down. Here is a link to the announcement on their web site.

https://gnfur.com

It is too bad they are closing. They did very good work in the beginning. We could have used another good tannery. Now Moyles and Tubari and other tanneries will get more business.

I feel sorry for the folks that have had goods sitting there for a year. I hope Tubari puts a rush on those orders and gets them done right away.

For those of you with pelts there, keep us posted as to how this plays out.

I’ve used Moyles in the past and was happy with the result. Being in the northeast it was expensive to ship to them. I now use Z&L in Newark New Jersey for at least the last eight consecutive years. Pretty much the same amount of 50-75 raccoon and a few reds each year. Turnaround time was 5 weeks or so and am very satisfied with his work. Hope all folks that sent to GNF get their unfinished hides back in good shape.
