I think with a little effort the Feds can figure out who bought a certain gun.

I am calling Bull. They can find out who the original purchaser was SOMETIMES. That's it. This is a common misconception. Even today if you were to purchase a gun all they ask is if it is a "long gun, handgun or both". No make, model, caliber or serial number. That info remains on file with the FFL holder. It would require EXTENSIVE research to find the original owner because everything is hard copy not electronic. Even if by some miracle the original owners name was located the person may be deceased, give them firearm away to 'someone", sold it private treaty, etc.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Fixed that for you. Not the same thing smile

Thanks, my error.

I thought our past governor was bad. At least he didn't push gun control like this one is. This governor has made it clear that more gun control is necessary to stop school shootings and he's only been in office two months.

I heard and not sure if true but under this ridiculious bill that your child even though is old enough to hunt cannot be in possession of the parents gun.

Is this true?

Here is a list of Minnesota Senate members: https://www.senate.mn/members/index.php?ls=#header

and a map of their districts: https://www.gis.leg.mn/iMaps/districts/

Let them know your feelings as these bills advance.

for background sales to work they have to know who has what.
How many of your guns do you have right now that were not bought at a dealer? And that does not even matter really.
If universal background checks happens you'll be able to transfer guns manufactured before the start of UBC. No way of the Gov. knowing when it was transferred.
The law will be greatly ignored. Get caught with a gun all you have to do is say "I've owned it before UBC, I can't remember who I bought it from and when" They will not be able to prove otherwise.
All "sellers" will say "I can't remember who and when I sold it".
They have to eventually go to registration. Until they do UBC is worthless.
Mandatory registration, get caught with un-registered gun and you'd be in deep do do.
Examples will be made.

Its a way for the Gov. to control the unwashed masses. Pass enough laws and they will be able to find a violation. Step out of line and we will find your violation and off you'll go.

How can you ever prove who owns what firearm? It's a scare tactic.

Both bills,HF. 8 and now HF.9 have passed in committee. Both passed on a 9-7 vote. You can guess what letter follows the 9.

So the feds get a gun with serial number intact they look up their records to see what FFL bought that gun. They then go to that FFL and see when gun was sold, then back to their records to see backround checks from that FFL . Yet they have no idea who bought that gun?

That tells them who bought the gun-it might have changed hands many times and there would be no record of that.

And the feds don’t have records of serial numbers. If it was a brand new firearm they COULD track it from the factory, to the wholesalers, and then MAYBE to the original owner. Anything past the original owner is a crap shoot at best.

Ok let say 15 years from now I have a 12 year old grand son that by today's laws he can legally hunt. But I am sure he would not be legal to purchase a firearm. So by him having a gun in his possession there would be know way he could claim the gun is his.

Am I wrong on this scenario?

Maybe MN needs to have sanctuary counties, and ignore the legislature .

Or maybe someone should list the home addresses of the house members who support infringement of 2nd amendment rights. This would allow folks to know where they could go to have a face to face meeting with MN state representatives.

They probably have a wall securing their residence and a body guard with a gun defending them. You know a immoral unconstitutional wall.
