I used to have a big apple orchard that I trapped every fall. The most productive place ever, on any of my traplines, then till now. That orchard was good for forty to fourty five yotes every fall. There were piles of coyote poop for miles around that were filled with apple peels. Was better than any carcass or bait pile I've ever trapped on. Urban sprall took care of it for me, houses everywhere there now!

Then apples are a heck of a draw for everything. Have seen first hand yotes work on watermelons as well. Them buggers are smart if they can't get melon opened quickly out in the open they will (roll) the melon over to brush to work em over.

You got that right. Last season my father in law had a nice patch. Bad thing is sometimes, they will just take a few bites and go to the next melon.

I know of a trapper that uses apple sauce in the winter.

Pear trees are as good too, if you can find some in the fall that havent dropped all their fruit yet. Like apples, once the fruit is ate up and gone, ya might as well set on a downtown intersection, the place has lost it's appeal!

Was gonna bring up watermelons, Flint.

One of my favorite places to trap grays when I was a kid was a persimmon grove near my home. Always had fox in there.

Caught a big male on a old watermelon used as a pee post. Caught 6 at that location this year.

Seen yote scat full of nothing but apples many times. First time chuckled and thought that yote must have been desperate to fill his belly. Every autumn since seen the same in that orchard and several others. Dunno if they like the taste, or just the easy calories.

Coyotes love fruit, especially melons. My dad kept a game camera on his back porch and regularly got shots of coyotes mooching his pears. Other visitors were grey fox, coons, groundhogs and deer.

BTW, cantaloupe is a good summertime chage up for canines.
