16,000,000 cars made in this one location in a little less than 43 years. Lots of work and lots of American wealth done and created there. I wish all those affected the best of luck in whatever comes next. May God grant them safe passage to a life after General Motors. I knew the GM was going to close several plants but I was surprised that the car this one was making was the Chevy Cruze. Maybe my reaction is sort of a 'sign of the times" in how a lot of Americans may see GM products other than trucks and SUVs/cross-overs that the company makes. One, I didn't even know they still made Chevy Cruzes--that's how far away I'm from new vehicles sales at this point in my life, and 2) I wouldn't be able to recognize a Cruze if I saw one pass me on the street. When I was in high school, I knew just about all models of cars in my small-medium city. Not anymore. Times are different... https://www.foxnews.com/auto/the-last-chevrolet-cruze-to-be-built-on-wedesday

My wife and I have had several conversations ,concerning how--all car today--look the same, with no personality. When younger, cars were awesome looking. Still remember my buddies 57 chevy, and borrowing my roommates 66vette. Tom

My family has owned Chevelles continuously since my Dad bought a 65 Chevelle station wagon. This is my 70, have a 72 also. Back in my youth, everyone looked forward to see the roll out of new model lines in September. Many folks would venture to the dealerships just to get a look at them. Most manufactures stuck with a body styling for 2 years, but there would still be small cosmetic changes each new year. I have the original sales brochures for most of the Chevy line from 66 to 75. It’s been years since anyone has got excited about a new model debut. No one wants cars anymore, it’s all about crossovers, suvs, and trucks today.

I know a guy that worked at the Lordstown plant. Said he worked about 2 hrs a day and bragged how he made half a million in 3 years. Maybe they "worked" themselves out of jobs.

Yeppers, I'm sure that's part of the entire equation. John Morell's was a big unionized meat packing plant in the city I grew up in. When I was in high school, a kid graduating had slim chance in getting a job there unless he had a male relative of some sort already employed. The union went out on a sympathy strike in 1987 for a sister plant down in Sioux City, the strike got ruled illegal, and the company broke the union. Some of the union guys were allowed to stay but more than half the jobs were filled by non-union, many migrants brought here by Lutheran Social Services. Our Governor Mickelson, and 6 others, died in a plane crash coming back from Cincinnati in 1993 trying to save that meat packing plant. I guess it worked because its still open as a Smithfield pork plant (used to 3 livestock critters back in the day) but I don't think a single union job survives.

Yes very sad, I to miss the older rides my 1st truck was a 67 Chevy, got to use dad's 69' chevelle a couple of summers. Now I'm working at getting some ol' chevies for hoarding, wanting them as bone stock original as possible. When I find them they sure are butcherd up. One thing I can say is this Montana and Wyoming finds they are for the most part not as much rust as a few I helped dad fix or part out.
Let me sugar coat this

Son-in-law has a cruise, haven't heard of any problems, Chevy trucks cost the most, but still break down like the others
