Had one of my duck hunting loads go through the wash. Just wondering how I should properly dispose of a live shotgun shell. I don't dare to throw it in the garbage
Cut the plastic part off and dump the separate parts in the trash. Even if it still could go bang after going through the wash it can't if you take it apart.
Stick it up good in the fork of a tree and shoot it with a .22. Don't do it on the ground while your close, something weird could happen and you end up with buckshot in your right leg lol.
I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....
My guess is that shell has a better than 50/50 chance of being unaffected.
If there is only one, and you don't want to risk a misfire at an inappropriate time; throw it in the gun and fire it off now. If it don't go boom, and I'm betting it will, cut it somewhere above the brass. dump the loose powder and lead/steel. The primer is probably now disabled. soak it in water, or not, and throw it in the garbage.
Man who mistake shillelagh for fairy wand; see pixie dust, also.
Let's try this again.......... the op said duck load and you said buckshot. I was just wondering how we went from birdshot to buckshot? T'is no matter-either one will go boom or land in the garbage. I just cut them apart if they don't fire and throw the brass and primer in the burning barrel and wait for the pop.
Cut the top of the shell and dump the shot and then put in gun and shot it off. If it dose not then do not worry about if it dose go off check barrel to make sure the wad is not in the barrel .

Holy crap, talk about over complicating things. Put it in your gun and pull the trigger. Military ammo gets wet all the time, and when we used it. 99.9% it went bang. Don't over think it. Same goes for civilian ammo. Shot many rounds of ammo that mom put through the ole maytag when growing up. Sarge

I know a beaver or two, because I've seen a beaver or two
you can throw it in a fire and nothing bad will happen
This is untrue, once when in elk camp one of the guys was emptying out a pocket in his hoodie that he put candy wrappers in.He forgot there was a shotshell in that pocket from hunting ducks during the day and threw it in the fire during dinner and drinks time. one of the guys was having a bowl of antelope chili and another was having some sipping whiskey, both spilled when the shell went off and a column of embers shot in the air and scattered around camp. I can assure you that was a very bad thing, funny, but bad.

You're right, that would be real weird for a duck load or a .22 to get buckshot in your leg.
