When we go out coon hunting, sometimes we get some big boars or coons that are hard to put down with a 22. Has anybody tried a 9 mm for coons or a pistols caliber in a rifle? I see hi point makes a cheap carbine in 9mm 10mm and 45. I just got to thinking that the 9 mm would put down coons better when we are calling them in. But how fur friendly are they and has anybody tried this? I know i wouldnt want to shoot an expanding bullet or something like that a t them

Would they work? YES. necessary no. A .22 will work just fine. Shot placement is everything. If needing more power, step up to a .22 mag, or any of the .17's

22 mag does the job with less holes than a regular 22. And the holes are not usually very big. 17 also seems pretty good. Any more than that is a waste of fur

calling in and then shooting moving coons , try a 410 with #4 buckshot. 4 buck not #4 turkey loads. #4 buckshot is 22 caliber balls. You could even step up to 12 gauge . they both shoot the same velocity but the 12 will shoot a lot more lead balls. don't use a full choke with the 12. most of the time you will be to close and tear things up to bad. full choke 410 with 9, 22 caliber lead balls will roll one right on over.

If you reload then there is others you could use. Like stated shoot placement. If not reload 22mag.

Lol. Whatever works for you but. I've bought quite a few Coon. The number one worst is roadkill. Number 2 worst damage on Coon pelts is shotguns. Number three is too big of a caliber rifle. The next worst damage that occurs is multiple 22 caliber holes. The least damage Coon that come through my door that are not trapped and shot in the head are those that are shot with a 22 mag. Or a 17.

I run coonhounds and all I ever use is a 22 . Shot placement means everything .
