C'mon man! Somebody explain this to me, please!

The old flip phone is used as a "pre-alarm" to wake up in the morning. It's set one minute ahead of the regular alarm clock to vibrate. That g-e-n-t-l-y wakes me up prior to that horrible sound the alarm clock makes.

Now I'm laying there sleeping and this thing goes off with that Amber Alert sound and the message comes across on the screen. And now I'm wide awake. My curious mind is trying to figure out WHY this thing did that, since it's not supposed to be working as a phone anymore. Susan just says whatever and rolls over back to sleep.

Okay technoweenies, please explain.

Then I can go back to sleep.

Try dialing 911 see if that still works..LOL
I think there was some deal where phones still have to be able to dial 911 even if not active with a plan. Might be why the Amber alert came in..

It's turned off. That's all I need to do is call 911 and it would actually work. Good tip buddy.

Did you get that Amber Alert just about 15 minutes ago?

Married a younger woman, she's still working for her health insurance. Three more years.

Alright, nobody has the answer tonight. I'll check back in tomorrow morning. Meanwhile, that flip phone is turned off.

Think maybe I'll go to the settings tomorrow and see if I can't eliminate that issue.

G'nite all.

If you still have a contract and paying, it will receive the alert, if your phone contract has been discontinued like mine and you use the alarm like I do, it still will receive the alert, due to being able to still dial 911, per regulations. I have to hide mine when the grand kids come over as they will accidentally always dial 911, I hope its accidentally LOL

You can adjust the volume, you can stop using it, turn it off, yea I know both of those defeat the alarm use, some phones you can adjust the alerts to not come thru, but I don't know if that is possible on non contract phones.

Even when you're in a remote location and forget to renew your subscription to your satellite phone, you can still call 911 on it. Don't ask me how I know that.

It still receives a cellular (or whatever) signal as long as the device has juice. All phones are registered. When there's an Amber Alert a notice gets pushed out to all devices in that region.

I got the alert between 8 & 9. Not much info.

Yep I got the Alert too at 9:32 my phone was actually on the charger and I didn't hear it. Wife says hey your phone just made a funny different sound. I get my dive calls by text and also a program called I'am Responding.. So wife thought maybe it was one of those..But the Amber alert makes a different tone than those two programs..
As for a phone that powers up and is not on a service plan.. I know here at one time the abused women's shelter was asking for those phones. They could give them to and abused woman who couldn't afford a phone in case they need to just call 911 in emergency. Guess it wouldn't hurt if a person had and old phone that still holds a charge. Maybe just leave it in the car or boat long as you can catch a tower you at least got 911.

My smartphone has a screen lock. Can't access the phone without entering the security code... But you can still call 911 even if the screen lock is on.
