I have let big beaver dry on plywood for a good week before with circulating air at 60 degrees. Wonder how long some others let dry on boards, anyone go back after tack out on plywood, a cpl days later a n squeexe out fat with pocket knife by tail or above it, impossible to get perfect with flesh knife without cut though , it marks the pelt up, just wonder how long some dry as wsnt get ship to auction the week last receiving date

You can use your knife to score the fat pockets so they will be exposed to air and dry out or slice them off, either way.

I pull mine off after the leather feels like cardboard all over.

Need to sharpen your fleshing knife. I very rarely have any sign of fat left and only if I get sloppy. I dry mine 4 days then take off the plywood. 60 degrees with fan going.

Maybe Missouri beavers dont got the tough thing fat in back or toward around tail like northern beaver

Oh believe me they do. Another thing that helps is after you got him stretched, take and scrape the hide with dull knife to push any oil out of the hide.

I use a scraper like this after boarding to get out all the liquid grease and blood corpuscles.

This small pelt (stirrup) scraper does the job very well also. [Linked Image]

I do exactly the same as Boco, but my scraper is a Hyde brand scraper. That knob is great for bearing down on some of the gristle areas. Can't do that with the other scraper shown on the next post below his.

That's a paint scraper. You can get them for around $15 or, cheaper wooden handled ones for $5 at any hardware store.

Go look around at the hardware store in the paint section.Make sure you take a file to the corners to round them off or you will damage the hide. They also make a fairly good frost scraper too if you have 30 below weather.
You can use them to scrape fat off other hides that are cased on forming boards, just don't scrape on the edges, keep to the middle and move the hide around the form as you scrape so you are always scraping on the center of the board.

Your picture shows the hide nailed an scrape when nailed? The sides of scraper are easily round with file? U go at it as u are scraping paint or u scrape the other way ? Is it easy to damage hide with scraper an does it help greatly ? U use it immediately after boarding or next day ?

Yes scrape after nailing.Yes the sides are easily rounded with a file. And the scraper is easy to sharpen with a file.I scrape all the way around, from the nails towards the center, and go easy on the flanks and go hard on the head, cheeks, shoulders back and rump.It is easy to open the fresher scars,so watch for those.Scrape right after boarding.
It removes the liquid grease and any flesh and fat that was missed when beaming or clean skinning.
