there were 496 castors in the 55 lbs.. We counted them. That was kits and all. We save em out of every beaver.
It came out to right at 9 beaver to a pound of castor for us.

I've been paying $60 a pound straight through for dried southern castor . That's all I can do with my current lure prices. I raised my lure prices last year, and won't do it now. If I don't get enough castor to produce lures at my current amounts, I'll just make what lure I can from the castors I get at that price. There may end up being a shortage of Backbreaker, but at least I won't have to work so hard - lol.

We understand your position but feel like it will sell for morw than that right now up there. Jerry said if he gets screwed he will be callimg you when he gets back from mississippi next year (we know you want the southern castor for lure) and maybe yall can work a trade for some Backbreaker. Paul do you know that Jerry still has a gallon of Backbreaker that your dad made years ago that he hasnt even opened. But you can never have too much Backbreaker

You have the front half or more of a new quad, would be my guess.

It sounds like a lot of shells and/or extremely dry. No more than $60/#, is that's the case.

I got 30 lbs from 150 beaver this year including kits. But most of my beavers are the big ugly river beaver that have whomper castors.
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

Ive heard that far northern and under ice beaver have larger castor but ive never seen any. Jerrys brother said he saw some in maine that were big as your fist and hard as a rock. Oir castors arent like that.

#1 $100/lb at auction
Hard saying exactly what you’ll get since it’ll depend on how much shrinkage you end up with. But if you lose 14% on shrinkage and 9% on commission your #1’s will net $78/lb I hope they do great for you guys

I'll post the results when it sells so that y'all can see what it brings.
If it brings 100.00 a pound I'll have to give Jerry drugs to calm him down, and hes a tee totaller.

77 average. and some change and he was shrunk 11 oz. even with his shrinkage he got way more than he would have in the country. not sure what the #1 brought.
only one person was paying 65 straight and he was full up.
