Got a call today about a cow operation. Coyotes watching calves being born and coming in. Not afraid of humans. Don’t know much more than that. Probably just as easy to shoot them than trap them. I don’t have a KS license or the time. Shoot me a PM if you’re interested.

That is my old stomping grounds and still own the farm there. It is hard to believe the cattle owner can not take care of business. Everyone carries a gun and coyotes are shot on sight year round !

Providing wild fur to the industry at below the cost of production for over 50 years.

Mostly carbon neutral since 1948.

Coyotes get pretty brave this time of year,
Hadn't heard anything from the local farmers.

I always get a kick out of statements like these. Not very many coyotes are shot on sight. More like just shot at. Ranchers don't hit every coyote they shoot at and the coyotes know how to avoid them. Cattle owners are usually so busy tending to their livelihood that they don't have time to do deal with coyotes or want to. That being said there are some ranchers that are very efficient at trapping and taking care of things themselves.

I can't really tell you why he isn't taking care of them. The lady that called me is elderly and it's her brother so I assume he's got enough on his plate with calving. Apparently there's been some lost calves with the coyotes coming right up to the pen awaiting the cows to give birth. They've tried to run them off but they just go a little ways off then come trotting right back in. If I didn't have to travel 40 miles and I had time I'd go help a guy out. Anyone in that area I'd expect it would lead to plenty more land to trap. He works for Landoll's but who doesn't in that town.

Yea they have one bridge closed down and the second is set to close at 6 p.m. here in town. Not the first time. You'd think it was an apocalypse. We have fared pretty well compared to many areas of the state so far.

At least you don't have to worry about the dam washing out at Marysville! That used to be a great place to fish.
