Check belt tension and then rev it a tad and you should have 14 volts minimal.

............when I gave it some gas...it went off......when I let off......it came back on.........

That means the alternator was working at least to some extent. I would first check the battery (or have someone check to see if it will take a charge).

welp,,,I was premature in my judgement..........the blasted + - light came on again..........so I did this tonite"Tonight when it gets dark start your truck up park it about ten feet away from a wall with your headlights aiming at the wall, and turn off the engine but leave the lights on. If the lights dim when you turn the truck off that means your alternator is working okay. But if the lights don't dim when you turn it off that means your alternator or something else in the charging system is shot"

lights did not dim..............so I guess im just gonna have to see if I can get a remanufactured alternator...even though there little machine said it passes the test.

the voltage light does fluctuate.............so i'm thinking the alternator is working...........then not working............then back to working. is that possible??

yes its absolutely possible. likely the internal voltage regulator as has been said by others. you need to get if fixed before you damage your battery.

Glad you got it fixed. Internal regulator I'm guessing? Brushes usually work or they don't...

Glad you got it sorted out. Electric gremlins can be frustrating to find at times.

$15.00 for an alternator? That's pretty good!

That may sound sarcastic but it wasn't meant to be sarcastic. It was meant to be funny. We do not get anything for coons around here since the 70's. $30.00 to $40.00 range was about the average back then. Now we get $6.00 to $10.00 (for a good one).

I averaged 5 bucks on my finished coon..........so I figured roughly 5x30=150.00 . it is sad though........those 20-30 dollar coon a few years back kind of got us hopin those 70s prices were comin back...........but alas. we do it because we are compelled to do it.....lol
