You are using the wrong bait entirely. Let me explain. Leprechauns are first and foremost IRISH, so the proper bait is whiskey. That's the most important factor, but there are also subtleties to consider. Homo Sapien Leprechaunus has emigrated from Ireland to other parts of the world, and despite having a unique culture, they have to some degree adopted the habits and tastes of the wee folk in their current place of abode. So if you are trapping in Kentucky, bourbon may be your best bet for a bait, but if in Scotland, scotch is probably the most effective bait. Off course, regardless of their present location, a wee lass is always the best lure.

My daughter just made her annual leprechaun trap. She says lucky charms is the best bait. She has never caught one but has had many near misses. She is working on trap placement....
Wish I had more time to trap....

They will feel like back home and will work there way to the set.No matter if there are born out here they will still feel like when there own came here .

Fine haaarses have been dovetailed with the Irish since time's beginning , and the lure of a fine haaarse is always appealing, no matter where they have emigrated, or the dialect of location. The haaarse runs in Irish blood . I will say, a real Irish lass will have nothing to do with those wee folk , but will readily take the haaarse that stands beyond the trap set, and take off with him , once the Leprechaun has been caught, and fall in love with a handsome , real MAN

They're protected in NY(illegal aliens) which doesn't matter much anymore since they spent their bags of gold on over taxed whiskey & fuel oil.

Hate to admit it, but I actually skinned 2 this season. My buddy’s son caught one and it was the first thing he caught by himself so I skinned it for him, and my mom wanted one for her wall so I have to tan hers.
