I just picked up a very nice, albeit smaller Black Bear rug. Fur, head etc. is really good, but the hide is separating from the felt. It feels like some king of "rubbery" glue was used right along the area where the leather meets the felt. The head area is still attached. Whoever did the rug put foam rubber on the interior area of the felt to make the rug appear more full. By all appearances this was a professional mounting job.

The felt itself is also in great shape. There were loops installed for hanging the rug on the wall. Both layers of the felt are black to give the appearance of a larger bear. The claws are all there and in good shape.

I need to find out what kind of glue I should be using to reattach the hide to the felt. If anyone has any tips or tricks I could use to get this thing fixed up it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Best bet would be to find someone who can sew it. Glued rugs tend to pull apart no matter what is used. All good rug makers sew them.

I am fixing this up for resale.

By what I am reading it sounds like hot glue. What kind of hot glue?

When we say "sewing" are we talking machine sewing or can it be tacked into place with single handstitches?

If I were doing it I'd just use the hot glue then hand stitch after wards. Machine you would end up pulling fur between stitch's, that would be time consuming.

Used the hot glue on the bearskin rug and it worked beautiful! Thanks, folks!

This is really an exceptional hide with very long, full hair. 52" from tip of nose to tip on tail. Now I just need to find someone who wants to buy it!
