Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

I thought so. They're pretty common around here on the spruce. Don't know if there is much of a market for them.

Not sure about spruce but definitely in hard woods turners and caver’s use them all the time to make bowls and such.

When peeled have seen them sell for good money for decorative porch uprights.

I remember being at the Yellowstone Lodge when I was a kid. Lots of the columns, bannisters, etc. were made of logs with burls like that. Really neat!

Thanks for the input, guys. Spruce burls are pretty common around here but this one is way out of the ordinary.

They are nice. I cut two trees for posts for my sugar shack.
Stained them and they turned out great. I let them dry for a year in the garage first.

I've toyed with using it in my cabin but then I think about what a chore it would be to peel it. It would make for an interesting upright as a roof support.

I found this bear clawed tree and thought it would make a neat lamp pedestal. I was nervous the bark would loosen and make it a waste of time. Seven or eight years later, the bark is as tight as the day I cut the tree.
